Hi,

While no Pro-from-Dover on Snorks, i'm not sure i'm comfortable with the "non-standard" spin on colors. As i understand, while some colors were produced for shorter run than others and while some colors/metals are more scarce than others, none of these are special-order and all are sort of standard. Some just are more scarce or today have more collector cachet than do others. Of course, happy to hear counter views.

That said, having increased my holdings of Snorks during last few months from the 4 or so total i'd held during 9 years, to some 75 or more (hey, accidents happen) and with disclaimer that may are for sale (or sold- need to update) on my evil website, i have had the pleasure to handle a number of better snorks of late.

The tray below shows Periwinkle, Peacock, Fiesta (reddish pen with metal cap), Vermilion (the reddish pen with matching cap), Mandarin and Fern

From the website, some individual pens and sets...

Peacock blue mint in box

Buckskin Tan set in box

Mandarin set mint in box

Fiesta Red Mint in box

Sage Green

Vermilion Set

Fern (most scarce color?) set

Periwinkle

Have to admit, these things have grown on me a bit of late.

regards

david

No pictures (I'm logging in from work), but I have a Fern Green Valiant and a Fiesta Red Clipper. Green is one of my favourite colours, so I was really happy to get my Fern Green!

Hi All.

I guess I'll take on the daunting mantle of Sheaffer nerd, and point out that a Vermillion Sentinel is an impossibility (as I understand the Snorkel color conventions). A Sentinel is a White Dot pen, and Vermillion is by definition a non-White-Dot color. I know the experts will correct me if I'm misspeaking.

Taking "non-standard" literally, I'd have to say that my only non-standard Snorkel color is my black-with-chrome-trim Statesman.

Cheers,

Jon

I have a burgundy Crest set (ahhh...its amazing...and will be more so once the smoothed nib comes back from Richard!) and my brother has a black Admiral set. Now, there were two burgundies, pre, and post 1956. Which one is rarer? I believe my Crest is the early burgundy, but I'm not quite sure. I really want a periwinkle pen and pencil set next. Preferably a Sentinel or Crest. Here's a pic of my Crest set:

Amir;

Thanks for making me face up to the fact that I have way to many sage pens - I didn't have a clue I had this many - it's not even a color that I really like! Anyway, post 1956 colors -

Sage, Sage, Fern

Peacock, Peacock, Buckskin, Periwinkle

My faves are peacock

Did Jon say black with chrome trim?

A bunch - demo, fiesta, vermillion, mandarin, buckskin, sage, fern, periwinkle, peacock, 14K, 9K, demo

Thanks for displaying pictures of the Peacock color pens. Now that I've seen what that color looks like, I have been able to identify the color of the set I have. I have a set which I bought, that I found interesting. It has BEST WISHES (heatstamped on the barrel), and Ed Sullivan, in a signature form, printed on the barrel of both the pen and pencil.

Does anyone know if Sheaffer was a sponsor of the Ed Sullivan Show, or if Ed was a paid endorser of Sheaffer products?

I have heard of the Ed Sullivan pens, always in Peacock, or so the story goes. Nice find!

Nice Snorkel collection, Roger! The 9k one is British, correct? Yes Roger, you have WAY too many Sage Snorkels. Might wanna send a few to me. I won't mind too much. lticaptd.gif

Evan and Woody;

Yes the 9K is English. I've seen a few of the Ed Sullivan snorkels on Ebay and they are always Peacock to the best of my knowledge. I looked, but Ed Sullivan was with CBS so there is no NBC peacock tie-in (it was just a thought).

Hey Roger,

Thanks for posting the chrome-trim variant. I was just too bone lazy to photograph mine (actually, my camera batteries were pretty well depleted). Nice to see the matching pencil!

Cheers,

Jon
