I recently received a Monteverde Invincia. Beautiful pen, great feel to it. One thing that's weird about it. It came with a standard new Monteverde converter... one of the little green ones... which actually doesn't seem to fit into the barrel of the pen. Seems just a smidge to wide to fit, oddly enough. It came with a couple of cartridges, and those fit into the barrel, although it's a tight fit.

Has anyone else encountered this before with an Invincia? Did I just get the wrong size converter... or was the pen not meant to use one - just cartridge only?

I played around with some of my other converters and I also wonder... can I just use a spare converter from another pen? I have an extra Waterman converter that actually fits into the barrel, and it seems to fit the nib. Does that work? Or is that a nono. I'm new enough to fountain pens, that I'm not sure of the answer to that. Is there enough of a difference in the top of the converter between brands that it might leak where the nib connects? If I can just use my Waterman converter, problem solved.

Good afternoon, Wacoshade. I also recently received a Monteverde Invincia Black Tie fountain pen and it has served me well (while I wait for Parker to send my Duofold back to me).

I have not had any issues with the converter I received with the pen. I generally prefer cartridges, but I have used the converter to clean the pen and to try out some bottled ink I purchased. Worked fine.

For that matter, I have not had any problems with the cartirdges, either. When the 3 that were included with the pen were exhausted, I purchased Private Reserve ink cartridges - the ones I purchased are the same size as the ones that were included with the pen. Again, no problems.

I wonder if you received the wrong converter by mistake? I don't know if a phone call to Monteverde to describe the problem would be beneficial; I've never dealt with them before. Sorry I can't offer any advice on the other questions - I'm new at this, too!

All the best,

Chad

Arklawboy makes a good suggestion. Just call Monteverde at 1-800-YAFA-PEN and ask to speak with Clara Cornett or Dot Stern. They'll correct the problem by sending you another converter under your warranty.

I agree with contacting Clara.
I have an Invincia I recently purchesed and had a problem. Contacted Clara and there was a replacement part in the mail instantly. I almost never use cartriges (I use Noodler's exclusively) and the converter in my Invincia is green like the one you describe. It may just be a mixup and they included the wrong one. Hope you get it solved soon.

Do you have any comment on the quality of this pen? How does it write?

Here is a review I did of the pen.
There are also two other reviews on the site. Go to fountain pen reviews, the click on FOUTAIN PEN REVIEW DATABASE (which is a sticky at the top) the other reviews are listed under "Black Tie"
If you have any questions after that I would be happy to answer them.

After my own experience with a Monteverde Jewelria and reading through various posts on the forum, I'm starting to think that the converter is a problem more often than not - it does seem to contribute to flow problems. As others have pointed out in their Monteverde reviews, it seems a common to have to push ink into the feed with the converter once in a while.

Waco - I just wrote up a review on the MV Jewelria and noted that the first time I tried to use the converter, it didn't seem to fit properly and didn't seat securely. If I remember correctly, I too thought it seemed a bit too fat. It wasn't till after I popped a cartridge in that I realized there was room to push it in more firmly and seat it properly. That didn't solve all the problems...but at least it fit.

Would Monteverde really make different converters for their different pens? I would have thought there would be a standard one for all their models. I'd certainly be curious as to what other converters would fit, though. Especially if they work better than the Monteverde ones.
