I have 2 Pelikans 140 (one burgundy and other striated green and black tops), around 50's.

I'd like to fix the striated green piston filler because it leaks, but I cannot take the unit off neither the nib/feed assembly.

Are these 50's Pelikans nib/feed assemblies just screwed on too?

I've tried soak them on sudsy ammonia and warm water, but I got no sucess.

One bad info: the green one was dipped on India ink.

Help me anybody!!!! wacko.gif

Thanks a lot.
Luciano.

Hi,

I think the nib section is screwed on. Give it a try, but do not force it.
An ultrasonic cleaner will remove the india ink.

I cracked my 140 nib-feed unit when I tried to remove it. I did not use a lot of force - I am pretty sure it was already cracked and just held together by being screwed into the section.

John Mottishaw put the nib on a 400 section and it works just fine, but it no longer has that longitudinal 140 feed. Use caution.

Yes, these nib assemblies are screwed in, but trying to remove them in this manner will often lead to a broken feed. The best way to remove them is to first remove the nib by pulling it straight out the front of the pen. You can use a *very* slight rocking motion (side to side), but it should be minimal. After you have the nib out, you will have a little more room, in the collar, with which to work on the feed. Don't rock the feed at all, but pull it straight out the front of the pen also.
If the feed still resists after the nib has been removed, soak just the nib/section in cool water for a day or so. That usually loosens the dried ink and will allow the feed to come out.

If there's India ink in there, you may have problems.

best of luck,
Chris
