I am new to FP and my knownledge of them is new as well. Since I am new I decided to purchase what could be called a novice pen. I purchase a Hero 616 because of the price and the reviews. I purchase the pen and bottle inked (Private Reserve) from Avalon Pens. I was really excited to get it in the mail the other day. Writes well and is everything I expected it to be. However, I have had some ink on the end cap where the nib is located when I take the metal cap off to write with the pen and ink gets all over my fingers. I either have the pen in my book bag or in my sleeve pocket on my uniform. Is there something wrong with the pen, my handling, or the ink? Please advise. Thanks

I waited so long to reply because of my very meager experience and knowledge in pens. I also have a Hero 616. When I took this pen out in the very bright sunshine, I can see cracks in the clear plastic mid section between the hood and where the barrel is screwed down. Perhaps the reason this pen has such free flowing ink is because it is getting plenty of air from the crack. I could not see the cracks with the light inside my apartment. I see some notes of other fountain pens which might lleak if they are over filled. The recommendation made in that case is: When refilling the pen. When pressing the ribbed bar down for the last time, remove the nib from the ink before releasing the bar. I guess I will have to buy another 616 myself. Other than the leak. I really like my Hero 616. .
