Full Version: A disservice to the pen community

I have a great respect for the key Sheaffer experts/historians/gurus. I also have a love of both Sheaffer pens and pen history.

However, when discussions of pen manufacture/introduction dates are quickly overrun by argument, pedantry and bluster, it does a disservice to the pen collecting community.

I have come to ignore threads that I would normally follow with tremendous interest, since it has become impossible to sift out the rare information nugget from all the BS.

Gentlemen, PLEASE, find a way to seek the truth without your discussions decaying into personal attacks or nitpicking about the other's semantic intent.

Best Regards, greg

I guess some would understand this, but without a frame of reference I for one find myself thinking "What the......"
Not that it invalidates your original post at all, and please don't take it that way. I am just confused upon reading it.

This post appears to be in reference to this thread and a previous thread along the same lines:

The threads pakmanpony references are good examples of what prompted me to post my message, though they are hardly the only ones. There have been many others that fit the desciption, here and on other boards.

I long resisted saying anything about this. I doubt it will make a difference, and it may even annoy the frequent offenders- some of whom I otherwise very much like. However, it has gotten to the point where the stated reasons for starting the discussions- identifying or clarifying an unknown data point- are lost in the hyper-analysis and posturing.
