Quick question about Danitrio nibs.

I see some Dani nibs referred to as "soft" and some referred to as "flexy". For example, in this post Kevin says the Mikado comes with soft or stiff nibs, but the Takumi/Densho line comes with flexy or stiff nibs. I'm assuming that the nibs designated as flexy are more flexible then the soft nibs? Do the soft nibs have any flexibility at all (i.e. do the tines separate with moderate pressure) or are they more just springy then the stiff nibs? Or by soft do we mean that kind of mooshy Lamy 2000 type feel roflmho.gif ? Don't get me wrong, I like my 2000, but it has a mooshy cow nib.

I'm again kicking around the idea of picking up a raw ebonite from Kevin, so I'm just fishing for a little info. happyberet.gif

Well, Johnson, I am disappointed you have no replies yet. I want to see an answer to your question, too. Do you think an e-mail to Kevin might be in order?

Hmmm. I wouldn't say the soft nibs were flexy, although the tines do open up a bit. I have a "flexy" stub and fine on Densho-sized, and a flexy EF on a Mikado. The EF is semi-flex at best. The fine is soft, with a noticeable "give" whilst writing, but because of the generous ink flow it has minimal line variation and acts more like a fine-medium. The flexy stub does flex, easily doubling the width of its downstroke with pressure. smile.gif Hope that helps! I'll try to post a picture or a scan when I can.

Here you go. The first line per nib is written with minimal pressure, the second with enough for the nib to flex.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Leigh. That does help. - But, his is Johnson's thread.

Lovely handwriting!

Sorry missed this thread.

The big pens like Mikado and Genkai models are fitted with what I call "soft" nibs, they are less flexy then the smaller nibs on Densho and Takumi. But, let's be clear, the flexy nib are not Vintage flex... BUT, still one of the softest on the market for modern pen. Hope this helps.

Nice handwriting Leigh.

Thanks Leigh for the lovely handwriting samples! And thanks Kevin for chiming in. My questions have been answered.
