Hi all, I'm a recent member and this is m first post. I recently purchased what was described as a Scheaffer desk set on EBay. I suspect it was a "made up set". I believe that the base is much earlier than the pen. The pen takes cartridge ink and the base appears to be very art deco with a fixed angle pen receptacle. The only marking on the base is UNIPECO (see attached images). Regardless I'm happy with the set but if the pen is later manufacture as I suspect (or perhaps another manufacturer) I would like to find one of more appropriate vintage to go with the base. Thank you for all your help.

Note the fixed angle of the pen.

This was the only mark on the base.

The Manhattan Pen Maker Project which is a database on David Kamakuras site http://www.kamakurapens.com/Manhattan/ManhattanList.html lists a Union Fountain Pen Co. with a date of 1920. I'd be interested to hear what you find out.

Very nice base on that desk set! Do you know if it is plastic or Bakelite or hard rubber?

I believe it's Bakelite based on other items I've seen in the past, the coloration and the art deco style. However I'm far from an expert.

Yep. Desk pen is a Lady Sheaffer* cartridge model, introduced in very late 1950s. Often seen with Lennox china bases.

*though I have seen a picture in Sheaffer's Review of a man in one of Sheaffer's regional sales offices, and he has a double desk set with two of these all gold-colored pens in a black glass base.
