Well time for another soak test with some of the new inks purchased recently. This time most of my pens are filled with blues of one sort or another. Here is the list:
  • Noodlers Blue Black (rated Near Bulletproof by Noodlers)
  • Diamine Prussian Blue
  • Noodlers Legal Lapis (rated Bulletproof by Noodlers)
  • Noodlers Black (rated Bulletproof by Noodlers)
  • Waterman Blue Black
  • Waterman Florida Blue
  • Noodlers Blue

Here is the "Before" scan of the inks written out on a clean white grid paper. For what it's worth these colours look fairly accurate on my monitor.

And then the paper was sliced vertically the length of the page...

The right hand half of the paper was submerged in a sink of water...

And left to soak for about 15 minutes. Here is a picture showing the blue in the Noodlers Blue Black floating off the page...

After letting the page dry it was taped back together and scanned once more.

The Waterman inks faired worse, almost disappearing from the page. The bulletproof and near bulletproof Nooders did excellently, as expected. The Diamine surprised me still, it did wash out some but is still perfectly legible. I love the Diamine Prussian Blue, it has good flow, is an excellent colour for me and now shows that it will survive a soaking. If anything I write needs to survive a soaking.

Enjoy,

Rick

This is very interesting. I am surprised that the Diamine Prussian Blue did so well! It is interesting that, with some of the Noodler's "near bulletproof" inks, the color washes away or feathers badly, leaving the black. I have noticed this in other combinations as well.

Thanks for an interesting test. I have been using Legal Lapis for several months and I have been please with it. It looks loke Noodler's Black will also be a good option.

Thanks for your efforts, Rick. Very nice test. Several noodlers colors are like this.
Aircorp BB is the same, the turquoise part leaves but the black part stays indelible.

Nice test. Diamine Prussian Blue held up well in my tests, too.

Wow, the endurance of Noodler's black is really amazing!
Nice test!
