Original Thread and the discussion went back channel between the original querier, and me. The result was that I agreed to restore or replace the section. I had forgotten at the time that the All Metal Skyline sections were different from the other Skyline section in that they carried the barrel threads that mesh with the cap thread, on board the section. So, the use of another Skyline section would not do. While I am not able to prove it entirely, I believe the original factory sections were themselves made of three-components.
Anyway making a new section would be required. Here is the results:
What you see at the bottom of the photo is the "original" section that sprung the leak. In the middle of the photo is the about-to-be-assembled new 3 piece section. The middle piece of the section (the threaded piece) was cut from an old Skyline Pyralin plastic barrel and trued up to within a thousandth of an inch. The front end of the section is a cut down standard Skyline section minus the nipple, and the leftmost piece thereof is a freshly machined nipple/friction fit barrel band (turned down on the lathe from another no-name section that I had lying around) and the forward end is machined to fit snugly into the threaded collar. The breather tube will be inserted into the back of the feed and the new sac will go onto the nipple at the left end of the new section piece. When assembled they will become the replacement section for my friend's pen.
This required some good spare Pyralin parts, a mini-lathe, a good micrometer and a steady hand and eye, and a some careful planning and patient machining.
Anyway I thought the Skyline folks would like to see this.
