Full Version: Oh woe. Dinkie R.I.P.

A beloved Dinkie (acquired from Andy) has cracked open in the middle and gone to heaven.

It is the Dinkie second from the top. Its demise was an accident, and its loss will be keenly felt. (In fact, to cope with my grief, I think I shall try to find a replacement. It is such a beautiful pattern.)

Siiiiigggghhhh.

PS. Andy! Heeeeeeelllp!

R.I.P. Dinkie, we hardly knew ye.

Right in other news, whats the replacement? tongue.gif Any chance of getting it repaired? The pro's do some wondorous work. Well they call it work, but I'm pretty sure they just wave some kind of wand over the pieces and say abra cadabra!

Leigh,

My deepest sympathies - just let me know how I can help! It may be possible to repair the pen but it would probably be as cheap to find a replacement. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare in the same material at present. The nicest item currently in my 'for sale' drawer is this Dinkie 526 writing set (no. 20 set, dating from about 1932), both pen and pencil are in superb condition and fully working!

Dinkies have two favoured places for breaking, one is across the barrel threads (which can happen even to experienced repairers dismantling a pen that hasn't been opened for decades), and the other is across the centre of the lever box, where the barrel is already slightly thinner because of the groove holding the lever pivot ring. If these are repaired after breaking, a very thin brass collar is used inside to ensure the repair is strong.

Remember, old Dinkies never die - they just go to the great spares box in the sky...........

Dinkie has gone to a better place, a place filled with super pen friendly paper and endless ink.

It broke near the lever box. Oh, sadness.

Off to the restaurant next door to eat a huge carnivorous dinner to take my mind off the loss...

Andy, I'll email you later! Thank you to all who have offered their sympathies. I wish I could offer all of you some tea... and biscuits...
