Hello Everyone,

My name is Harley Downey and I am a wanna be pen collector from Denton, Texas (Dallas/Ft Worth area). I try to write with all my pens regularly and do not see the reason to buy a pen and not use it. I would like to learn pen repair but do not know where to start. Where I work we get a lot of parents with home schooled kids, so I have been giving the kids a pen and having them write me a letter. Hoping this will slowly start more kids writing rather than only email. Best wishes to all - Harley

Howdy, neighbor! thumbup.gif

I live in Little Elm, 4 miles south of 380, about two blocks off FM423, east of Denton. I am a homeschool dad, and I suspect the homeschoolers are eating up the idea of fountain pens and getting their kids to write letters.

I moved here from San Diego CA in Sep 05, so I am not officially a Texan yet, but my oldest son has lived in DFW for 12 years now.

Are there any pen shops in Denton? The only one I know of in DFW is at the Galleria, and it is supposedly full retail.

Hi Donnie

I have gotten my pens from Fountainpen hospital, ebay or I manage a resale store for Habitat and sometimes they are donated from estates. Best source for paper I have found is Voertman's next to UNT.

Good luck with the campaign. It's a hard one, but worthwhile nonetheless. I think what might interest the kids more than the pens themselves (how old are these kids, anyways?) is the wide range of ink colours. You could pass around cartridges in really fun, funky colours; I think that would really catch their interest.

Welcome hdonwney:
I live in Dallas. The shop in the Galleria is Paradise Pens and there is a Montblac shop in Northpark.

If you and donwinn are interested there is a North Texas Fountain Pen Club that meets every other month. Our next meeting is June 6th at 7:00pm. We meet at the Holiday Inn Select, Richardson, TX. It's on the west side of Hwy 75 between Arapaho and Campbell.
We have been averaging over 40 folks at the meetings. There are members who have pens to buy, trade or sell. There is also a pen related program. A lot of our members are very knowledgeable about repairs.
I hope to see you there.

Welcome to FPN. The internet is probably your best pen source around here. Enjoy yourself here.

To me, age isn't the important thing. What's important is if they're interested, and if they know how to use a fountain pen. I was using fountain pens regularly before I was ten years old, and I've only ever broken two nibs in over 10 years of use.

hdowney,

There is a repair book the every body quotes for repairs, called "da Book", if you want to get into repairs you need to get a copy. Pendemonium sells the book for $20. No affiliation.

PS welcome to FPN!

Welcome! And do come to the NTFPC meeting!

I have previously seen the notices about the NTFPC meetings; however, they are held on nights when I am at Care Group for Church. One of hte reasons I moved here (to Little Elm particularly) was to be part of a church plant from San Diego, and a long time friend from there is the leader of the Care Group. He would not be offended if I mssed to attend the NTFPC meeting, but I would miss the relationship building and encouragement of the care group meeting, so I will have to pass until or if the day of the week for the meeting changes.

If NTFPC has a newsletter I would love to subscribe, but have no idea how to even find out. I do intend to visit Paradis Pens Monday as I have Memorial Day off. Apparently it's the only B & M pen shop in the DFW area. My daughter in law who lives in Carrollton told me there is a nice stationery store near Park & Preston in Plano, but she cannot remember the name of it. She goes when she is shopping at Whole Foods, across the street from it. I may check out that area also, on my way back from the Galleria, as it is only a few blocks off the tollway (I used to work in the Galleria Towers, and would stop by Whole Foods to pick up stuff on the way home).

Hi donwinn:
I'm sorry to say that we do not have a newsletter. The first Wednesday of every even numbered month has been our regular meeting date for as long as I can remember.
However, a bunch of us get together and play 'show and tell' on the first Saturday of every month at La Madelines on Campbell, just west of Coit in Richardson, it's on the north side of Campbell.
By all means join us and introduce yourself.
