Full Version: Carrying loose paper?

Based on recommendations from the forum, I have picked up some HP #32 paper. Some of this will be used as blank paper and some I will print on to create task specific sheets (e.g. music notation). It would be nice to have something notebook-like to carry these loose sheets around so that they don't get marred. Suggestions appreciated.

Hi Tritium,
I use one of the standard folio-style legal pad holders. I use a binder clip to hold the top of the loose pages to a salvaged cardboard back from an old legal pad, then slide the homemade pad into the folio. It protects the pages, but is easy to unclip when I want to remove a loose sheet.
Best regards, greg

Thanks for your response. Do you, or anyone else know, if someone makes something like this, a sleeve with a flap, but in leather? This might be a good option.

It might be in the realm of using a sledgehammer to swat a fly; however, I have a Wenger (the Swiss Army Knife People) super padfolio (real leather) I purchased at Office Depot for a little over $50 a couple of years ago. It has handles, and the usual 3 ring binder, but it also has zipper sides with 3 separate sections I can use for file folders of papers. I think you can order it online. It also has space for a letter size legal pad, credit cards, and more places to put stuff than I have stuff.

Donnie

Edited to note real leather

Leather will NOT be cheap (but I guess you knew that). If you really need leather, you will save some money, and have a better chance of getting what you want, if you find a local leatherworker, explain what you are wanting, and negotiate a price for a custom-made bag.

If it does not have to be leather, look at the "Skooba Skin" laptop sleeves from Road Wired (www.roadwired.com). $29.95 for a small one, in a variety of materials and colors, that will hold up to an inch and a half of paper.

You could also use page protectors in a regular ring binder.

Levenger's! They have some beautiful leather goods for paper.

The 'briefolio' under the Briefcases & Totes -> Bomber Collection section looks to be closest to what you're wanting. (That's Bomber as in Bomber jacket leather. biggrin.gif )

I purchased a zippered folio made of some kind of black, synthetic material from Office depot a while back for $15.99. It seems to be a reasonablytough material, and is qiute sturdy. It has pockets fro papaers, plus also a slotfor a legal pad, as well as 1" rings like a 3-ring binder. I take good paper, use a 3 hole punch, and put them on the rings, and I am ready to go.

FYI, your folio with a flap is generally called an "envelope." So a search for "leather envelope" should get you what you want.

The one I carry has a zipper on two sides. No pockets, no nothing, just a zipper. Perfect.

I wanted to add that folios and pouches are often found at art supply stores, so if you have one in your area you might want to check it out. I have two that I love - one a beautiful amethyst embossed leather envelope from Levenger's wub.gif and a zippered one made out of a "fabric" that looks like window screening that I bought at an art store. That last is nearly indestructible. I've carried papers in it and thrown it around my office for nearly ten years.
