I'm still on my first fill with this pen and it has run dry twice with loads of ink left in it. I have also had the blind cap screwed off about 2mm as per included instructions. Only way i can get it to write again is to pull plunger out and push it back which seems to force ink to the nib again. Has anyone else had similar problems? Not sure if there is anything wrong with it or if i need to persevere, after all i am only on the first fill. Does anyone screw the blind cap back tight after use or leave it unscrewed ready for next use? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
In my experience, the blind cap has to be screwed off all the way, untill there is no ' room' to screw anymore. If you pull the blind cap a little further from that point (about 2, 3 mm), you feel and see the point where the plunger is up far enough to let the ink through. Make sure the nib is downwards while screwing, so the ink can flow down. After a few moments, I then screw on the blind cap again.

I also unscrew the blind cap to the end of its thread (where the cap will then just spin freely). I typically just leave the pen unscrewed while I'm using it unless I'm just jotting down a note. I have never had flow troubles though.

Can you see if the ink is moving past the plunger when you unscrew it? I suppose it could be just a surface tension problem. You could try flushing the pen with a bit of room temperature soapy water (a very little bit of dish soap). That sometime will help.

I really hope you can get your pen to act properly. My 823 is my absolute favorite pen, so it's worth the work to fix it.

I also have found that unscrewing the blind cap all the way back is necessary for proper flow. If you're still having flow problems and a good flushing doesn't help, you might try different ink. I have found P.R. Copper Burst to be a great match for my 823.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try unscrewing the blind cap all the way and see if things improve. The main reason i bought this pen was because of the rave reviews, but at the moment i'm not too impressed although that could be down to me. If it starts to perform as it should then i am sure it could become a favourite.

When I initially purchased my pen I also followed the instructions and unscrewed it just 2mm. While writing, it would start to run dry. After that I began unscrewing the blind cap all the way until there were no threads left and it writes perfectly. Yesterday I filled it with Parker Quink black ink and man does it write nice. Before that I was using Legal Lapis which was fine except for the nib creep. The Parker Quink comes out a very dark black and wet with a perfect size line for me (I have a medium nib). I hope that things work out for you as this is definitely my favorite pen.
