I found this at an antique store this weekend. Any idea how old it is?

Thanks,
Farace
I'll be interested to know as well. I found a box/bottle with the same graphics, except that it's permanent Royal Blue, in my grandmother's storage unit. And I'm using it . . . it was half full and it smelled okay, looked okay. My guess, based on knowing whose it was, is that it's from the fifties, but that's just a guess.

The boxes changed in the 70's or 80's, I think. I have several that I found at home like that, and my mother stopped using a fountain pen in the 60's (or earlier). Don't remember when Dad stopped using his.

Mine are marked with price tags in the 25 and 29 cent range, if that is a clue!

My bottle of Jet Black from the early 80's is red with a red label on the bottle. The last side well bottles had gold caps.

Is there a market for these or is it just a conversation peice? I can't find the post I saw a while back that was talking about ink bottles.

there is a market for them-people love to fill them with new ink because of the well inside the bottle. it makes it easier to get the last of the ink into your pen.

Those bottles are plentiful here in N E Ohio. Empty, with a good box like that, you can pay approx. $10.00 in an antique (Junk, mostly) store; $3.00 at a flea market. NOS right out of the shipping crate, it will cost you $7.00 at the flea market. I use this old stuff almost exclusively for everyday writing because it will not grow mold in the bottle or in your nice pens.

Oh, BTW, I think it is '50s or '60s vintage.

I believe Paddler is right. It is definitely pre-1965 because it says "Sheaffer's" rather than "Sheaffer" on the box and bottle. Another clue will be which pen is advertised on the inside flaps of the box top. The ones I have with the same graphics advertise a Snorkel. This would place the ink no earlier than 1952. So this places it within 1952-1964.

Cheers,
Laura
