Full Version: Remove ink stains from an Estie?

I recently purchased a beautiful silver SJ. The seller had it loaded with Namiki Blue, which I decided to just use up. Unfortunately, this ink appears to have stained my beautiful pen! Some ink got into the cap, and now the threads and a small portion near the lever are stained blue! I've tried to remove the marks with a damp cloth, but I haven't had any success. I don't want to scratch the plastic, so I haven't tried anything harsher.

Any tips on how I can get rid of these stains? Are other inks likely to stain it as well? I'm going to fill it up with Noodler's Polar Blue once I finish getting out as much as I can of the Namiki.

(I normally wouldn't care, I'm a "use it and abuse it" kind of guy, but I'm a sucker for grey and this pen is just so darned pretty!)

Thanks!

Try a mild polish like flitz. It should give the ink a run for its money, then use an old toothbrush to scrub at the threads to remove the left over polish.

Esties are fairly bullet proof, so unless you're using sandpaper to remove the ink, you're probably ok.

I'll put another vote in for Flitz. I've had dried up inks on my esties and that's taken care of it rather well.

Hey, thanks for the replies.

I wasn't able to find Flitz locally, so I picked up some MAAS metal polish at the local WalMart -- says it's good on plastics, acrylics, etc. Looked on-line, it seems to be a rouge-based polish, with a number of comparisons to Flitz.

It took the ink stain out pretty quickly, and left a very nice sheen on the pen! I'm going to let it sit for a few weeks to make sure it doesn't discolor the pen at all (it has an "inhibitor" ingredient, I assume some sort of wax) and then polish up the rest of the pen!

Thanks again!
