I recently bought:

MONTBLANC MEISTERSTUCK SOLITAIRE FOUNTAIN PEN
Vintage 1995, rich bordeaux , new in box, has paperwork

from a seller on Ebay. Really sweet and in pristine shape. My question is about ink. Try as I might I have found no sources of ink for it. Other than maybe the MB webite, although I saw nothing listed there.

Questions:
Can you give a good place to buy ink offering different colors?

Can other inks be safely used in a MB or do they seem to be tempermental?

What size of cartridge does it take?

Also, what is this pen called? I thought I'd seen a model # of 144R somewhere. Is that correct?

A co-worker who has a MB LeGrand Traveller gave me a MB cartridge for his pen to try, but before I insert it, I want to make sure it ok.

thanks;

MB is picky about what ink is used in their pens. Whether this is so they can sell more ink or whether other brands will really dissolve the glue that holds their sections (as one pen store told me), I do not know.

If you have to send it back to MB for service it would be a good idea not to have any non-MB ink in it.....

I think using only MB inks in your MB pens totally misses the point. You can use any kind of Fountain pen inks you wish in your MB pens. Nothing will go wrong with them. I have sent pens a couple to MB for repairs, and i was never asked what kind of inks i was using or was ever told to only use MB inks. I think there are much better inks out there than MB inks (OMAS, Aurora, Noodlers) and i do use all of them. In total i own 15 MB fountain pens (modern and vintage) and i have never encountered any issue with them cause by inks.

Avoid any inks labelled as Indian Inks or carbon based (like Higgins Eternal), and you should be ok!

I'm pretty sure inks like Noodler's, Skrip, Private Reserve, Pelikan, Aurora, Parker Quink, have all been in many many many different pens to date with no untoward happenings smile.gif

Thanks for the info. I suspected as much, but it's always preferred to ASK first. I have read so many good things about the above mentioned inks that I'm really excited about trying several brands and colors.

Is there a place to buy sample colors form the different vendors? Say, 1 oz bottles or even .5 oz??

Hi Chris,

Check out Pear Tree Pens website, you will an ink sampling system detailed there, you get to try 4 samples for very little money, a number of members use it and not just those in the US.

Unfortunately, I think Pear Tree Pens just suspended the ink sampler program -- temporarily, I hope!! I think he got a little behind in his store and had to save time somewhere.

Do check out the ink reviews in "Inky Thoughts", I believe. There are lots of great inks out there.

I just put Waterman Blue/Black in my new (to me, at least) 144 and LOVE it!!! Very smooth -- nice color. And I like OMAS, Noodlers and PR inks (Tanzanite is a great color) -- have fun!! Watch the Marketplace, too -- people often sell ink they aren't using.
