I don't know what's come over me. There are scads of wonderful Sheaffer pens all over this site, but only a few desk sets. What's interesting out there? I've only got a few pens and one base but I'll upload a picture later tonight. LET'S SEE WHATCHA GOT!

Hey! I posted about my Sheaffer's Snorkel desk set not too long ago! I put a few pics on there too. This is the link: my desk set. Anyways, its a beautiful pen and everything about it works, the only problem is that the tines are too spread apart and its tough to get it back into shape.

Here is one of the variety of enameled bases Sheaffer offered. There are quite a few variations in green or black enamel, but brown seems less common. The green and black bases usually have chrome sockets, but this one has a chrome trimmed socket and pen.

Sheaffer also produces some sub-brand desk sets, as in WASP and Craig. Below is a WASP set in gray birds-eye plastic. I have several Craig desk pens, but have never been able to find a Craig base. I've never seen any other sub-brand desk sets, but would be interested if anyone had (surely there must be a Univer desk set somewhere).

OK - here at long last is my promised deskset picture. Its a set from 1930 and is in that catalog as pen model # K74TCK and base model # 30. This is one of the convertible pens that one could either use as a desk set or pocket pen by changing the end piece.

Sheaffer produced quite a number of desk sets with dogs. Below is one example. I don't know exactly when this set was produced as I don't believe it is in any catalog. I would guess that it is from 1928-1930.

Eddie;

You disappoint - not in any catalogue...Set #31 in the 1930 catalogue originally $12. The variants of this set, namely smaller cut marble, those are not in the catalogues. Very nice sets and quite a hungry looking dog which I never understood.

Oops - my bad. I was thinking of an identical base that I have with a different dog figurine. After much discussion, my wife and I cannot agree on the breed of dog on the other base (which I unfortunately don't have immediately available to photograph). Maybe Sheaffer just specified "base with a dog" when they purchased these items. I also have a small square base with the same hound type dog as pictured - and I don't believe that it is in any catalog.

OK, so the photo is a phone camera pic but this is the dog I was originally thinking of - like the hound base but the dog is different. My wife and I have argued about the breed and why this dog is different from the hounds on the other bases. I don't think that this dog is pictured in any Sheaffer catalog, but I could be wrong.

Eddie;

I'd say the dog is a Borzoi as they are far more common on sets/items than my dog the Irish Wolfhound not to mention the Borzoi (or Russian Wolfhound) is lighter in build than the Irish. Nope, your pup is not in the catalogues.
