You could also get a couple of cheaper pen, a pot-pourri of Sailor, Platinum and Pilot.

This web site could give you a couple of ideas

i agree with mike. the decimo is sweet, plus you could EASILY sell it on this board if you didnt like it. there is the fermo too, if you wanted a twist action rather than push button.

I'm in Japan, and have visited many pen shops here. While I can say that pens like the Decimo and Fermo are available here, they are expensive. In fact, I often buy my higher-end Japanese pens online instead of locally.

Best deals here are the inexpensive pens, like the Pilot 78G--wonderful nibs, for $6 - 20. Also Sailor has some nice lower-end pens.

I agree with Samovar and Jared, there are many inexpensive good pens unavailable overseas such as Pilot Grance in Japan. Your relative can get them at any large stationery stores or often at department stores. However, I believe Pilot 78G is not currently in production and might not bge easily available in Japan. Also Namiki name is not used in Japan and you have to tell them "Pilot" smile.gif I would love to have the new Pilot Prera (about $3000 yen or less than $30) but it might be too small for some people.
