Full Version: Pen Cases and Pen Wraps at Lee Valley Hardware

Visited my local Lee Valley Hardware store to buy myself a Glue Syringe to use for refilling ink cartridges and discovered that they now have Pen Cases and Pen Wraps (Rolls) in their stores and on the website.

I didn't really need it but for the low cost ($8.25CAN/$6.95US) I purchased one of the wraps anyway. It is a decent quality wrap, made in Taiwan of black velour type material with a fold over flap and cloth ribbons to tie it closed. It holds 18 pens and my largest pen, a Lamy Safari Vista, fits in with ease. There are probably higher quality wraps out there but for the price this is a decent way to carry around a stack of pens.

The pen cases were in a display case and as I didn't have any pens with me didn't ask to see the cases up close. I also just built a couple of cigar box pens cases and so wasn't really in the market. The cases come in two variations, the differences being the size of the slots inside the case. I would think most pen collectors would want the 32 pen case with the larger slots --- the slots in the 48 pen case looked very narrow to my eyes. The slots in the 32 pen case looked similar in size to the pen trays that gopens.com sells, at least through the glass.

Thought you pen collectors out there might be interesting in some decent priced pen storage solutions.

Regards,
Rick.

Yep, learned that the hard way last year. It was about a 30 minute drive to find the doors locked. One of the last retail places I know of that still stays closed on Sunday. I applaud them for that.

Me too. People need a break, even people in retail smile.gif I used to be in retail myself, for many years, and I always disliked the Sunday shift for a different reason--if someone called in sick that day, you had a snowball's-chance-in-you-know-what of finding a replacement worker sad.gif

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up, Rick. My husband and I drove out to the nearest LV store on Saturday and got there before the store closed. We came back with one 32-pen case, the pen wrap and a mini level (for my husband, the amateur photographer).
I haven't loaded the case up with pens, but I think it will be a nice storage/display solution. The slots for the pens in the 32-pen case seem to be perfect; I can't see the 48 pen-case of the same size being wide enough for most of my fountain pens (but then again, I didn't ask to see one).

Where are you located SMG? They have have stores across Canada and there might be one closer than London.

Lee Valley B&M stores, in Canada only, are catalog stores. They have a small show room with some items on display, but you browse through the catalog and fill out a form with items you want, present the form at the counter and they bring your items out from the warehouse. You don't have to browse the catalog, they also have computer workstations and you can browse that way and electronically print your pick list.

I'm up in Waterloo. We had a get together on the weekend, and one of the attendees had a case very similar to these.

Email me b/c for more.
