The person behind the "Lapindigo" mix referred to in the writing above is hoping to be posting on FPN shortly under the pseudonym "Viseguy". smile.gif Due to a mess up in the registration procedure, he needs an admin's assistance. That may be ongoing as we write. rolleyes.gif

Viseguy is in the building! (Thanks to Wim and Roger.)

Nice, informative scans, Roger. Lapis and Indigo are both unusual colors, and (IMO) the combination is pretty distinctive, too. Closer to a traditional blue-black than straight Lapis, but still "different". And they're both Pendemonium exclusives, so it's all in the family. Enjoy!

Nice scans, personally I think I'd go for more Legal Lapis as I'm not a big violet fan but an interesting combo. ^_^
Roger
Thanks ZXC. On the way to the 1:1 mix, I tried 2:1 Lapis to Indigo and the strange thing was that the swab test (didn't write with it) actually looked darker than the 1:1 mix. The hue seemed about the same, but it appeared to these eyes to be darker or more saturated. wink.gif

And for Viseguy's information, Wim tells me that Denis actually beat him to it and did the necessary keystrokes to get you on board. All the admins are great, and as you say, "it's all in the family". Thanks Denis. smile.gif

And, speaking of hue, I just noticed that the Iraqi Indigo is virtually the same hue as the lines on the Rhodia tablet used. That is just the way it looks on the original paper, also, so the fidelity of the scan is pretty good, too. cool.gif

Interesting report, Roger--thanks!

My waterproof Aquamarine does the same thing as your Legal Lapis in that it makes a much wider line than you would think it would based on the size of the nib it's coming from.

I like the Iraqi Indigo--it's more purple than I originally thought. The mix of Aquamarine & Hellbender that I posted about is more of a red violet, so the two would go nicely together.

Best,
Ann

I know this is an old thread, but I just happened across it and was intrigued by the colour... My only concern is that the newly minted ink maintains its `bullet-proof`status. I can`t see why it wouldn`t, but we are dealing with mixes after all... :-)

Can you confirm this? Thanks!

Not to worry, it does.

Is there a scan of this somewhere? I just poked around but couldn't find one.

I found a sample in an old Moleskine. See below.

As promised, here's a picture of the "Lapindigo" waterproof mix in action. It was scanned from a Moleskine journal entry made in July 2005 (and so provides some evidence of the mix's archival properties). Enjoy!

Thanks for the picture, I'm going to have to try it!

Lapindigo: A 50/50 mix of Noodler's Legal Lapis and Iraqi Indigo. These particular colors are only available from Pendemonium. It looks great -- thanks for the scans, Viseguy.

Another scheme for Sam to get all the money I have set aside for the Dallas Pen Show in October! rolleyes.gif I am going to have a booth, and hopefully not spend more at Sam's than I sell. I do after all have to have Danny Fudge look after a couple of pens for me. thumbup.gif

I have a lapindigo variant, but apparently I didn't post the pictures of it. However, it can be seen as the title and box ink in my Noodler's Blues tests here:

Have to try that one since now I have both inks thumbup.gif

How does it vary? (Just askin'.)

I added some ottoman azure and whiteness of the whale to the mix.

Deirdre, could you post a scan or picture of this mix when you have the time?

See post #16. smile.gif

It's the ink I used to write the page title, ink names and draw the boxes around each ink area.

Bigger pictures here and here.

Another thought along the same lines is a mix between Tahitian pearl and Iraqi indigo/violet vote. Tahitian pearl is in the same color range as legal lapis, but a bit darker.

Thank you.

Your flickr account, and melniki's picasa account are great ink reference tools.

It's most likely possible to come up with a similar color using Aquamarine and Hellbender Red (and perhaps a touch of Bulletproof Black). These two colors also provide a wider range of hues when mixed; in fact, it should also be possible to approximate Legal Lapis and Iraqi Indigo. I'll play around with these inks to come up with a formula or three when I get a chance.
