Hi Everyone:
I recently purchased an M800, which I am really quite happy with.
I was just flushing it out tonight for the first time to change ink colours... One thing I noticed... when I twisted the plunger mechanism out (ie, emptied the ink chamber), it came to a point where it stopped as expected. The piece you twist (it probably has a name??) then has a bit of play (maybe a quarter turn to a half a turn) before I can feel the piston start to move back out as you fill the ink chamber.
Is this bit of play, or loose feeling normal with the piston on these pens? On a piston filler in general? Have others experienced this? I'm hoping I didnt over-twist at some point... the mechanism is still quite stiff for me overall.
Thanks,
Michael S.

Hello,
I observed the same type of behaviour with my M600. I have been told that I shouldn't wory too much.

This free play is normal in order for the two stage piston system to work properly. Every Pelikan has it, and vintage Montblancs with a three piece system have even more
Don't fuss, enjoy

Hello Rick,
Sounds logical.
What is exactly a "two stage piston". Why is it different then on other pens.

I have noticed this "play" on my Lamy 2000 as well as, and more than, my M800. It never really bothered me. I guess I just assumed that as long as the piston comes back up eventually it would be ok.
