Does anybody have a Waterman X=pen besides Richard?

I read his description a couple of months ago and have looked for one since then (not at a pen show because there aren't any in my vicinity). Needless to say, I have found none for sale, nor any history of any being sold. I have not tried to search European dealers (except UK) and came up dry there also.

Any hints where to look?

Thank you.

Nathan Tardif used to have a few to sell, in his pre-ink days. You might try contacting him, via his website (a link to which can be found at Penhero.com). I guess they come up occasionally at pen shows as well, or so I hear.

I suspect they are hard to find because they were made in Waterman's twilight years, did not sell well, and did not appear to be worth keeping, even in the back of the drawer!

Isn't that the capillary filler model that once the ink is allowed to dry within becomes, as a practical matter, unrepairable?

Hi Rpj et al,

Dried ink in the capillary fill material does not always write off one of these pens as with careful cleaning and flushing some can be rehabilitated however don't be tempted to take the pen apart they can be a real PITA to re-assemble. A bigger problem, if the pen has been left with some types/brands of ink in it, is that the nib, which in most, if not all, versions of this model is not gold, will corrode and in extreme cases the back end of the nib will crumble into flakes of what is effectively rust.

Platignum, a brand of Mentmore pens produced a variant on the X-pen under licence from Waterman, this was initially marketed as the Platignum 100 and later as I think the Varsity 1500 or Varsity Capillary, these are more often seen, in the UK at least than the Watermans X pen. I have one of these Platignum 100s and have had several more over the years, when they work, which most of them have, they fill and write well, the plating of the cap isn't of the highest quality but in well kept example will still be good.

John--

That was all new information to me and quite interesting!

Thanks!

Most of the X-Pens I've turned up have come from Continental Europe: France, Germany, and Switzerland.
