I have the opportunity to purchase a mint MB Generation fp.I know nothing about this pen other then the fact that I find the pen very attractive in the black color being offered.

I have owned one for years in dark blue and I absolutely love it - one of my favorite writers wit a sweet buttery smooth nib.

Both pens write incredibly smooth and neither one ever skips or fails to start up when I touch the paper - even after sitting idle for weeks at a time! So - as far as writing is concerned - it is a tie.
For me, the tiebreaker would be that the Mont Blanc is the least expensive MB made and is therefore a bit on the light and plastic side as far as appearance and feel is concerned. Although if you like a light pen to write for hours on end - this would be it.
The Carene Deluxe, on the other hand, is a much more sophisticated and well made pen. It is heavier - being brass with a thick lacquer coat and a sterling silver cap that is stunning. There is no comparison in appearance - the Carene wins there. Also - I LOVE the inlaid nib - it has always fascinated me as being one of the most amazing nibs made- it simply blends right into the barrel with no visible ink fins or anything - just a modern streamlined thing of beauty!
If I had to choose between these two I would take the Carene every time!
If you do choose a Generation - I have seen them a lot on Ebay.
Good Luck with your quest!
John
