I recently acquired from Pam as OscarBraun a M800 with a fine point. It writes more like a medium. The Fine point is something like 0.046mm and the Extra Fine is 0.026mm. I was afraid the Extra-Fine point would be scratchy, even on good paper ( I do a lot of writing in a Moleskin Notebook). What experience do others have with the Extra-Fine point nib.

I have an extra fine nib on both my M805 and M625. Both are very smooth and very nice to use. The M625 is a bit wider. Cheers.

Pelikan EF nibs are *extremely* inconsistent.

I had my EF nibs exchanged, but the replacements were no better - I hope you may have better luck. My EF nibs wrote no differently to my F's, and it is generally accepted that Pelikan nibs write wide, and wet. If you are happy with an F, you likely be happy with the EF - because there is little difference.

I ended up having all my Pelikan nibs reground at extra cost to a true EF, because F is too large for my handwriting.

From me its as follows:

Four 800-based pens -- two extra fines and two fines. The ex fines are not scratchy at all and quite smooth. The fines are buttery-smooth.

Two 600-based pens - one fine and one extra fine. Fine is buttery smooth and ex fine is just smooth

three 400-based pens- one fine and two extra fine. The fine is wonderful, but the extra fine is quite scratcy. I had Chartpak change both extra fines but the new nibs were no better.

I mostly use the 800's so I've not gone back to attempt a second round to improve the 400's. When I want a smaller Pelikan, I reach for the fine point.

This is very helpful. I will switch my Fine for an Extra-Fine.

I think an EF works better on Moleskin, while a F is better for Black n' Red and other wide-ruled notebooks.

When I bought my Pel M420 a few months ago, it came with an F nib because EF wasn't available from the seller. I decided some two months later to send it to Chartpak to try an EF, and I have to admit, on this particular pen (18k nib, but I doubt it makes a lick of difference from 14k) the EF was significantly finer than the F. I almost went for a switch back, but noticed that the ink I used next (PR Black Cherry ) gave me too close to what I was hoping for and I opted to keep the EF. To make a long story shorter, I think PhThalo is right--switching from F to EF in a Pelikan is a crapshoot, but my EF is smooth and flows beautifully. No use messing with that!

I had an EF in my 800. It was rather scratchy and had some flow issues. I compared it with a F and it was not significantly different.

Ultimately I went and purchased a separate Medium nib which, as it turns out writes like my parker fines.

I think Phthalo hit the nail on the head: there's some inconsistency.

I will say this: the Medium is one of the nicest nibs I have. Starts up perfectly every time, smooth, clean.

Hi all! I have a Parker Duofold Centennial with Extra-fine nib, and it's wonderful for me (more than my Fine-nib International). Now I want buy a Pelikan M600 and I'm not sure what nib type I have to choose. Does Extra-fine Pelikan nib write like the Extra-fine Parker?
What's your suggestion? Thank you in advance.
