Full Version: Curious...what do people use lighter shades for?

I've recently purchased PR's Shell Pink and Purple Haze...but after inking several pens, I've found their colors to be so light (so, dare I say, hazy) that I doubt I'll ever really use them. I mixed Purple Haze with some darker inks this morning and like what I came up with, but I was curious...do others use these inks as is? If so, for what?

My experience with watery inks was not so good either. After trying J. Herbin's Diabolo Menthe and Bleu Azure I could not use them. I then discovered the joy of Noodler's and Rohrer & Klingner saturated inks.

They're good for decorating ...cards for baby showers.. and.. x_x Well, they make my Nakaya goldfish converter stand out more. tongue.gif

I stumbled into buying some Purple Haze and then, like you, was a little bewildered by its paleness. I use it for exceptionally girly notes and then put matching sealing wax on the outside of the envelopes. happyberet.gif

Appreciate everyone's replies...having two girls who visit often (ages 14 & 11), I think they'll be gifted Purple Haze and Pink Shell very soon smile.gif

I also have Shell Pink and Purple Haze. I made the awful mistake of adding Diamine Jade Green to the collection. None of these light inks can be comfortably "read" under what I would consider to be ordinary circumstances.
I intend to mix my own colors using these colors and others that are darker. That's the only way to make up for the mistake of having purchased them in the first place.

I like writing and drawing with PR Shell Pink and have wanted to try both Purple Haze and Diamine Jade Green. I use yellow ink regularly too. I almost never use black or brown and only use blue as a consession to my bank who is not fond of colored inks as they don't scan well. rolleyes.gif

I like some inks that are light or pastel, but I agree there are some inks that are so pale they just can't be read. I think in terms of Herbin's Bleu Azure. I also wonder what they are use for. I have not tried either Pink Shell or Purple Haze, and I thank you for your bringing them up here. I will focus my energy elsewhere.
