Hello,

I happen to know that Mr Russ Stutler had a NOS one with price sticker etc for sale a few weeks ago. I don't know if it has since sold. His web site is www dot stutler dot cc

I have bought a number of pens from Russ and he is one of the greats.

I saw the NOS pen. It's a bit on the high side. Also I want to write with the pen, so I'm leaving it for a collector.

I've been doing the same thing, Elaine, and it hasn't gotten me one step closer to using a Myu. I think it's time for a change.

I know it can be a contentious issue, and while removing a sticker may be near traumatizing, I am sure it can be done. I figure I can turn on some favored music really loudly and after a good, stiff shot of something very bracing, I can do it. I can remove a sticker from a vintage pen and not regret it once I've inked up that piece of history and put it to the use for which it was intended. happy.gif

I also reckon once I've done the deed, that baby is mine for life. So it's kind of like getting married but a whole lot cheaper. wink.gif

He does have one Black Stripe MYU as of this morning. Price is $560 with a Fine nib. He also stated he had a few SS Murex, with Fine nib for $210 plus shipping.

Yup, that's the one I was talking about. Actually I wouldn't mind taking the sticker off. (well, not much) What's really stopping me on this one is that it's priced higher because of the sticker.
Margana
I withdraw my suggestion to remove the sticker. Those beauties have gone way up in price since I last looked. If I spent that much, I'd want the Myu to increase in value. Back to looking for a user grade one.

You'd think removing them would be easy with that kind of atmosphere. How wrong you'd be. I have two Myu's (A Stuttler and a Soundboy_JP) that were just too nice to leave in a box, so I worte with them almost constantly. I eventually decided to remove the stickers. They took 2 hours each with alcohol swabs. That sticker glue gets solid after 30 years wink.gif

Is it possible to find a user grade blackstripe MYU and if so what is a ballpark figure?
Dan Carmell
Elaine and "spilled ink," You might consider contacting Stan K. in LA and asking him to designate the next one he gets for you--I suspect he would do that. Even for NOS stickered pens, his prices tend to be significantly lower than Russ Stutler's prices (And that is not to disparage Russ at all--a very nice guy.)

This might be a stupid question, but who is Stan K.?

Greetings MYU Lovers!

I just parted with my stickered "MINT" Black Stripe and it has found a new home in Australia (Hi Jim, I know you're out there! ENJOY!) . I gave someone else the responsibility of taking that "perfect" sticker off, although all it takes is a little patience and an ultrasonic cleaner with a 3:1 solution of regular Formula 409 to water. Never failed me yet!

Now, that leaves me with a plain steel MYU, which has a hypodermic needle nib but for "black stripes" I have a Custom set which is the FP, BP and RB/FT (fibre-tip), so no cold turkey!

There are no stupid questions here...if you knew the answer, you wouldn't have to ask & if you never had to ask any questions, you'd be the smartest person in the unverse & if you knew everything, you'd be the unhappiest person in the universe cause nobody would ever want to talk to you, especially about pens!

Confused?

Oh yes, original question...Stan K. (aka Stan Klemanowicz) is one of the most knowledgeable people in the U.S. on Japanese pens...and a heck of a nice guy too!
He's always willing to answer any questions you have on Japanese pens and their history...and not afraid to correct you if you're wrong about anything on the topic.

In Japan we have Ron Dutcher and Russ Stutler and I believe Masa Sunami also as our experts in the Land of the Rising Sun. Now if only these guys would get cracking on writing their books on Japanese pens, I would smile even more so than usual!

Oh yes I am out here Doc. Thanks again for the striped MYU. I have been admiring it again for way too long this very night.

I will take that sticker off as I am a devout user of pens and as a result do not gravitate towards the really really rare NOS. That and the fact that I am a poor scrivener and can't afford them. Ha Ha.

My totally unscientific research shows that there are still a number of stickered MYUs and Murex's of all denominations in the wild.

Yes I will take that lovely minty sticker off the striped MYU and fill him with ink.... I will.....one day....just not tonight.

All the best

Doc, thanks for the primer - where does one find Stan Klemanowicz's pens for sale?
By the way - I love those black parker internationals up there - just higher than I can pay. Regards Badrsj

I just purchased a black striped MYU in mint condition with original sticker still on.In addition I purchased a MUREX MR500-SS,and brother of MYU Volex all with the original stickers. The pensare arriving next week from Japan.Silly question but why is it so difficult to literally remove the sticker? If unsure whether to use or collect, how big of a price drop does one incur in the value of the pen once the sticker is removed?I will definitely keep theblack striped MYU but may end up selling one or both of the other pens.

Who did you buy them from?

All three pens were purchased from Russ Stutler.

I use the same technique for removing stickers as I do for removing wine labels from bottles; Steam wink.gif Just place your pen over a steaming kettle, watch you fingers and within a minute you will be able to gently remove the sticker.
