I am new to the group and live in the Dallas Fort Worth area in Texas.. My true love is working with wood which led to making wood pens (mostly rollerballs and ball points). I finally got around to making a fountain pen and fell in love with it. I had many questions about FP's and have already gathered a wealth of information from the group and am look forward to learning much more. Everyone seems very nice and helpful which is the main reason I decided to become a member. I am looking forward to my time here.

Welcome to FPN from another who lives in the Metroplex. There are others on this board who turn pens. Where exactly do you call home?

I live in Arlington as well. My home is close to The Parks and I work close to your neighborhood.

Do you know of any place around our area to to buy ink? I am wanting to try out some of the Noodlers colors I have been reading about in the forum. I could buy them from someone on the internet but would rather be able to just run down and buy them.

Hi James, and welcome!

You're among quite a few penturners here on this forum. Old Griz is mighty handy, and there's another fellow from Connecticut whose handle is Firefyter-EMT who turns pens. I think he's also a member of Penturners.org, another forum for folks with a lot of passion.

Sorry I don't know of any ink stores in your area, though.

Welcome from the Houston area! I have relatives in Hurst and FW, and routinely go to Dallas on business.

There are no good ink sources close by us. The only local source in the area that I know of is paradise Pens in the Galleria. I have found Sheaffer Skrip black at Hobby Lobby. I primarily buy my inks online.

Hi,

Penturner84 - Will you post some more photos of your pens?

My wife and I are interested in turning fountain pens. We have a complete woodworking shop and a lot of neat wood scraps. Here in Toronto we have Lee Valley Tools (www.leevalley.com). They sell turning kits for ballpoints and pencils, but not for fountain pens. Lee Valley also sells wood and other material in pieces suitable for pen turning (I do not work for Lee Valley - I just like to spend money there).

James P mentioned Penturners.org above. I'll check in there.

I am new here as well and I am gratefull for all the friendly and knowledgeable people on the FPN.

Hi James;
Welcome, I live in Dallas and work close to the Galleria. Paradise has a very nice selection most of the time.
If you are interested our pen club, North Texas Pen Collectors, meets the 1st Wednesday of even numbered months at the Hoilday Inn Select on 75, before Campbell at 7:00 PM.
I'm sure some of the members would love to see your work.

hpschd,
Here are some of the pens I have made. I'm a better turner than a photographer so please excuse the quality of the photos. A new camera is on the list but its turn has not come up yet. I buoght some of my tools from Lee Valley too. Great place to spend your money.

Haven't figured out how to attach more than one picture at a time?

First one is Kingwood.

This one is Ancient Kauri Wood.

And a pen and pencil set in Snakewood.

This one is my favorite and the reason I am now a member. Its Curly Koa.

Robert,
I might take you up on the invitation. Everyone I know is tired of hearing me talk about pens. Go figure.
