I recently bought a Sailor Calligraphy pen from The Writing Desk - you can see it here - Scroll right to the bottom of the page. I really bought it just out of curiosity as it has an odd nib that bends upwards so that you can vary the line thickness with the angle at which you hold it. I already have the Sapporo with the zoom nib and I love that to bits, but I wanted to see how this one worked.

And (I'm sorry but I'm going to have to shout about this!) IT IS AN ABSOLUTE UTTER DELIGHT, and something not far short of miraculous has happened to my handwriting. With this nib it becomes almost elegant (note here that I said almost). I like it so much that I have bought it a converter so that I can use it with my favorite inks. And at only £14.30 it has to have been one of my very best FP investments. So an entirely win win situation. Hurrah! happycloud9.gif

Just had to share that ... blush.gif

Thanks for the image, plipule. I've been wondering what these pens are like, and I think that you've just persuaded me to buy one.

Yeah, I've got one of those smile.gif Except I use it more as a highlighter/underliner, more so than a writer headsmack.gif The only drawback of the Sailor Superscript is that there is no hard "iridium" on the nib...

Maybe once I graduate and start making money, I'll be able to afford the level-up version of that calligraphy pen - the Zoom nib smile.gif If you really love how that pen writes, and prefer that kind of nib as an everyday writer, you may be interested in investing in a Zoom nib in future too, pipule smile.gif

Thanks Kissing,

I do have a Sapporo with a zoom nib. And it is great, but I find that it writes very broad indeed for me (particularly with legal lapis in it). Great for letters and things but not so great for taking notes - I only get about five words per line! I wonder if it might be more usable with a dryer ink in it? Might give it a go... eureka.gif

Very nice work! Certainly the nib, ink and paper are in agreement. Which ink and paper did you use?

I've no experience with the zoom nib but do have the calligraphy nib. The angle at which the nib hits the paper determines the line width. So a more upright hold will produce a nice, fine to medium line like George was able to achieve. My writing isn't anywhere near as nice but I do find the nib to be loads of fun for drawing. biggrin.gif

Hiho,

I found that with my Sapporo/Zoom too...however the top of the tipping has been polished too so you can use the nib upside-down and it gives a nice fine/medium line with a slight stubbiness to it. smile.gif Give it a go and see if you like it. wink.gif
