I'm looking for a pencase to keep the pens I take with me safe, very safe. Plenty of leather pencases, but none that will protect my pens 100% in case someone accidentally stand on my backpack.
Would anyone know a source of pencases with a hard shell?

I was looking for the same thing a while back... I purchased but then returned a Cross hard case because it only held thin pens & the fastening mechanism would pop open by itself.
Then someone on this site recommended:
www.all-pelican-cases-4-less.com (nothing to do with Pelikan)
They make utilitarian-looking, indestructible, small plastic cases w/optional foam liners that would work as pen cases. I don't have one yet, but I keep thinking about them, especially for travelling.

I don't own one, but I would love to get one of those
http://www.otterbox.com/products/cigar_caddy/It's a waterproof, plastic cigar case 2 to 15 cigars.
Might work...
Anybody have one?

When I worked offshore we used Pelican cases because they are tough and water tight. They do look very industrial but I bet you could drive over one and not damage your pens.
Depending on the number of pens you want to carry you could also look to a handgun case. They have egg carton foam on the inside and are durable as well. I keep my seal collection in one now.

Thanks for the tips!
I've mailed some suppliers to see whether they ship to Europe. If they do I might buy both some Otterbox cases and some Pelican cases and do a review on them...
Samovar, those Cigar Caddies look very promising indeed. Especially the one that can hold 5 pens. That about as many FP's as carry around at the moment.

Some of my Parker pens (cheaper models) were sold in very nice and slick plastic case, holding 2 pens. I have two of them, and they are my choice for work on site...

I have a hardshell (metal) clamshell-type eyeglass case that is great. The only drawback (that doesn't bother ME but would some of the more picky folks) is that there is not a way to keep the pens from rolling a bit inside. I wrap them in Kleenex before I put them in for when I put the case in my suitcase before flying.
That last sentence has really bad grammar. Time for bed!

Not quite on topic, but does anyone know where to get one of those old-fashioned, wooden pencil cases - the sort that had an upper section for pen holders and nibs and a lower section for other things that you could get to by swinging the top section around?

I don't know whether it's occurred to anyone else or not, but I've actually found a travel toothbrush case to be a good pen holder. Don't know that I'd stand on it, though.

My bride uses one of these for carrying her pens every day in her purse/backpack. I have one that I use when I'm traveling. They work very well, especially with a few tissues inside for padding.
Best of all, they were free

I have one of those Otter Box cigar cases the 2-cigar version. It makes a wonderful pen case. And one can drive a car over it, and yoru pens will be secure inside. Pelican is another company that makes similar cigar cases that can be used as a very secure pen case.

Hmmm. . . been thinking about one of those Otter boxes for my pens for a while, and just finally took the plunge and ordered the one for 5 pens. What made me finally decide? Well, Wolverine1's comment helped, but so did the fact that they're paying me $6 and some change to get it! |
Can you clarify on the $6??
thx

There is a web site called cigarbid.com that sells the otter boxes in an auction format. I got the 5 cigar(pen) box for $7 plus shipping of $3.95. They have a monster box for like 56 cigars that is a beast but if you travel with a ton of cigars errr....pens it may be the way to go. If you have an urge for a cigar the site is cheap for those too!!!

I just bought a a CD protector box at Longs for 12 bucks - pretty hefty clamshell construction, with a pirelli tile pattern on the surface. Took a minor effort to pry apart the two rivets holding the cd sleeves, but now I can install a sheet of leather or whatever, and sew on some wide elastic banding. Should hold 5 or 6 pens easily, 8 if you want to jam them in there.
