I signed up for the 5 samples of 5 sheets, and they sent me the 5 samples, but 10 sheets each! I'm pretty psyched. Now I just have to try them, probably tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads-up, I just ordered 5 samples of 5 pages; maybe I'll luck out and get 10 of each too!

O.K. - What am I doing wrong here. I have tried 3 or 4 times over the past week to order the samples on the Mohawk web site. When I click on "order" nothing happens.
Any suggestions? Thanks

The website is written in java (I think), so your browser settings might be such that they don't allow you to access it.

I received my samples a couple days ago. Really beautiful paper. I had five sent to my girlfriend's address as well. My first thought was some free resume paper. We're both in the home stretch of our undergrad, and I'm seeing a lot of resume-printing being done in the near future.
So I'm planning on tucking most of these samples away for later, but it's too pretty to resist. I have to try some out with the FPs. I'll report back with my results.
Edit because I forgot to mention how great the service was. I got an email confirmation and a tracking number, and I had the paper in just a few days. I was treated just like I was a serious prospective customer and not a scavenging college student. I think I'll have to become a real customer, once I've picked out a favorite style.

Yep, the swatchbooks rock! Smallish size sample sheets laid out for comparison, bound up in a booklet that looks to be about 1/2 sheet size. Perfect for writing on and testing your pens.

Wow, this company is awesome! Maybe I should order my grandparents some of this paper for when I stop by there. . . 0:-)
Thanks a lot for pointing this out! Are there any other companies that give out free samples with free shipping like this? Preferably with ink?

They have a limit of 5 different items, and because you can get no more than 3 of each item (and with some, only two) the very maximum limit is 15.

I'm not sure exactly how they work it, because I ordered one swatchbook and one type of sample paper. Got the book and five sheets of the paper.

Hmmm, has anybody tried to see if they'll send samples across the pond? It would be US sizes, but...
edit -- you can pick US sizes or metric. So, does anyone know if they ship for free outside the US?

I don't know but when you go to the order page there isn't an option for anything but US states,
if that means anything.

Get a swatchbook to start and along with it pick some other paper in a color you prefer (i.e. off-white, bright white, cream, etc.).
With the swatchbook you can feel and test all the varieties and then order full-size samples of the stuff you really like.

OK, I am completely new to this. I just received my pens from ISELLPENS and they seem pretty good. I got a Pelikan Future and a Hero 508. I am using Private Reserve Inks right now.
I have no idea what to do when I am looking for paper. Several people recommended getting the swatchbook, but which one is best? Should I go with the Strathmore as it is noted for writing? I really have no idea what I am doing. Maybe it was the wrong time to pick up a new hobby.
Thanks,
Jonathan

The Strathmore book works. Also, check out some of their heavier weight paper (anything > 20#). I've found the "wove" nicer for writing than the "laid", but it's one of those personal things you'll have to figure out for yourself, hence the samples!
Main thing: don't stress it, this is fun!

This paper site is not the best for beginners. They sell bulk orders of paper (like for businesses), but they offer free samples that some members have tried out. At most, you can get 5 sheets of one kind of paper from this company without placing an order for thousands of sheets. People are just ordering the paper on this thread for fun. As a beginner, I'd suggest going to your local office store and buying HP Premium 32lb laserjet paper. It is sold by the ream, and is widely available. It is one of the more commonplace papers for fountain pen users. If you look around this board, that paper will come up often.

For fun? Why, I take insult. You should know that I ordered this paper as to finely exercise my exquisite pens and inks in a manner that is fitting to their divine nature. It is beyond my comprehension where you think this is fun, as I am working hard, without any breaks, to make sure my writing instuments are in fit shape to be accepted into my daily rotation. 'Tis a lot of work, my friend, not this fun you speak of.
As if palying with pens and nice paper was work....
Anyway, I got my swatchbooks, and was suprised at how much paper each one contained. I also ordered this promotional thing, but it turned out to be a poster that promoted their paper's great printing qualities when used as a poster, and it has no writing space, save the back, which has a different feel to it.

I'm so glad to see this, I ordered 10 lbs. of swatchbooks, one for each FP to test. I was looking to see if anyone had posted this little nugget, and voi la! Here it is.
Most major paper manufacturers offer generous sample packs and it's only a matter of weeding through the company. I also have a batch on its way from Wausau and International Papers.
Another way to carp up free samples is to visit printing companies, they are hounded by paper reps replete with freebies of all sorts. Your office manager probably has a secret drawerful of free samples too, it may be time to organize a raid.
Stationers tend to have very little sample material and here, in the midwest, they are not at all generous about sharing the wealth.
Happy hunting!
