Full Version: Gapping Parker 51 Clip

I recently bought a 51 off of Ebay and the clip has a gap between the clip and the body of the pen so it does not hold onto a shirt pocket very well. How do I adjust it to be more snug?

Thanks,

James

Hi James,

The best way to do this I would think would be to remove the jewel, unscrew the hollow screw under that which will free the clip from the cap and then check to see where the unwanted kink or bend is and correct it.

If it is not just an easy tweak with the fingers, which it might well be, then I have used plastic semi soft jaws in a vise to straighten a kink and smooth jawed pliers with a wrap of rubber round the clip to gently correct a bend at the arrow end of the clip.

Then re-assemble the clip and cap. smile.gif

That is just how I have done it in the past and it has worked fine for me, no doubt other people will have different and perhaps better ideas about how to do it and I look forward to seeing what they are.

Good morning,
P51 clips are held in place by a screw under the top jewel. I posted more info on this in a different FPN thread yesterday. Check out

and the referenced link to a great diagram Richard Binder has at his site.
Best regards, greg

If the gap is relatively small, you can gently lift up the clip a bit using a small screw driver, maybe 2/3 of the way from the end, and then press the end down a bit. A small tweek is all that's needed.

If have a serious gap, then removing the jewel and screw to bend it down at the screw end is the only way to go. The problem is that you then have a chance of shearing off the threads on the jewel, then you're into a replacement jewel. mad.gif

Thanks for the help. I was able to lift and gently bend with my fingers without removing the jewel and the clip is ok now.
