I had an email exchange with the marketing people at Parker UK today.

Apparently, two new finishes will be introduced to the Duofold range in October 2007, and a new 'mini-Duofold' will be released at around the same time. I guess that this pen will be smaller than the international size Duofold.

I was also told to expect 'a lot of activity' in the Parker brand in Q4 of this year, whatever that means.

IMHO they used up all of the really attractive patterns in the Duofold (modern) range in the early years and had to resort to increasingly bizarre and unattractive patterns just to have something new and different out there.

The mosaics look like something a clown would be embarrassed to wear and the new Amber looks like a dog's breakfast - on the way back up again.

I hope that they have come up with something really nice this time around - although I still think that the ebony and pearl will be hard to top.

And Mark - don't know if you've owned the Presidential sterling version - not bad, but not as nice as either version of the Classic CP-5 IMHO. Not bad though.

Psst - anyone got a grey marble Centennial for sale.....

I agree with you. I didn't like the Esparto because it's too small for me. They dropped a major clanger by not introducing it as a Centennial model. And the news that they are now planning a mini-Duofold seems to imply that they are chasing the female market. Shame to see Parker go downhill like this. sad.gif

I like the pinstripe version. Especially the blue. I have a few in ballpoint version.

The Mosaic is a little wacky, but the Check (Checkered?) pattern is kinda cool. Yeah, and we'd all hate to have a Mandarin Yellow Cloisonne... smile.gif

Actually, it just means you have to buy more stuff for your birthday. At least, that's what it means to a shopaholic roflmho.gif

I hope the new stuff will get to the USA, but I will buy onlne if I have to. I love modern Duofolds. I was disappointed that the "cloisonne" was just a dcal in the cap.
thanks for the info. animal26.gif

Thanks for the info, Mark. I can't believe it took me a week to see it though.

I am afraid I also react with skepticism. I am expecting to see some hyped up tripe for a so-called LE rather than just new Duofold colors. I have all the colors in Duofolds from the late 1980's through much of the 1990's and I love them. But I stopped collecting with the mosaics, stripes and checks. I am letting some time go by while I decide if I am going to collect any of those colors. If I do, it will be a single example for each finish and not all the colors.

I guess Parker has a history of Duofolds in "lady" and "junior" sizes, so a "mini" is not completely out of line. I am curious to see what they come up with, but I seriously doubt I will buy anything.

The last Duofold I really liked was the grey and black veined. I also liked the Lapis and the Jasper. Everything since then has failed to grab my attention.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I disagree about the Mosaic, I have the blue one and and I think it looks great. Not quite as nice as the marbled Duofolds from when they were reintroduced (I have a set apart from rollerball in blue) but drew admiring glances at work.

For me a lot depends on the colour rather than design I quite like the blue pinstripe (I have one of those too) but don't much like the brown.

Just realised I must have a thing about blue, as I have a Lapis Lazuli Duofold as well (modern not vintage).

I wish I could afford to buy more, as I love the marbled grey and the marbled white one (was it the Rockwell LE) and am quite fond of the white marbled vintage pencil I bought a couple of years ago, be nice to find a matching FP.

I'm always interested to see new Duofold designs/colours and if I can get them at the right price buy some more.

Yes, I agree that the early Duofold colors were quite eye catching. I love the jasper and the lapis, and I am also very fond of that grey-green jade color. I find those early colors so nice that I have my Duofold BP's, pencils and rollers in those colors, too.

Mark, you remind me that the one color I missed was the grey and black veined. I am still lurking on the after market boards to sniff out a good buy on a grey-black Centennial. I will find one eventually.
