This clown on eBay thinks we're all stupid. Have a look at this "rare Pelikan 400" from his personal collection. He could have at least cleaned the thing up first!

You should check out his taste in fancy artwork..
There's a stunning, mint condition, limited release, 3-D gem by some lady named 'Maxine.'..
$1,700 value apparently.. but through the kindness of his heart, the opening bid is a mere $150..

Hi,
That could have gone for $60 on average (With a steel nib) when new. In fact, we could still order those (with a gold nib) from Chartpak at my last check. I don't think that's made anymore, but $200 is too much.

But it's in "supreme mint condition" and it's 5.055 inches long. Surely extra special super duper supreme mint (isn't that a Ben & Jerry's flavor) and such precise measurements must be worth something.

Because, if it is sold, it will be sold to one of two people.
One: a real fool who was mesmerized by the shtick
Or
Two: a plant, this is so he can resell it at a still absurd price

Yes, but was it exposed to the element?
That darn element is what kills it 90% of the time.
Its the difference between a $60 pen and a $65,000,000 pen (apparently..

We should all put our pens out with such a description. There's more than a couple of typos in his and the biggest one has to be the price. Well he's got a bidder, hopefully he/she's a plant so that others aren't taken.
Update:
Current bidder looks like a plant - bid on this person's bid 51% of time.

Interesting that the high bidder is the generically-named "Bidder1". Bets on who that is?
mmoncur
Feb 18 2007, 05:43 AM
Actually "Bidder1" is eBay's doing, they withhold bidder IDs for high-value items (which I find bloody annoying).
Look at his other items, there's another "Rare Pelikan 400". I'm not a Pelikan expert - is that one real, or is it a green M200?
I like how he says it was "NEVER TAKEN OUT OF THE BOX" and then includes a picture of it sitting outside the box...

^^ I'm still laughing at that..
I love the way 'high-value' item lost every ounce of its meaning in that context.
I'm starting to think this guy wouldn't surprise me one bit if he started yanking pens off bank teller counters and listing them on eBay as being 'Mint in the Box Never Touched by Human Hands'..

Interesting that you can increase the price of an item 5x if you label it "COLLECTORS SERIE FOR COLLECTORS ONLY"
^^Agree with the "NEVER TAKEN OUT OF THE BOX"; I had a good laugh at that- I hadn't thought of it that way.

Isn't there a way to ask questions openly at ebay under the auction?

Cant we report the listing as a con? Ther is a report button there, somewhere.

Must admit I often look at this guy's auctions and wonder if I am sitting on a fortune. OK some might be prototype/rare which may be worth that little bit more but mostly I think ??????
But I'm very tempted to sell him some of my pens and retire on the proceeds. I just feel sorry for buyers that think they have got a bargain based on his inflated values, when in fact they have paid well over the odds for something fairly ordinary.
One of my favourites is the Special Parker Adapter that he sold for $36.25, looks remarkably like one I saw in WH Smith today for £2.99, but hey it may be a rare prototype.
Still 'buyer beware' is the best way to deal with Ebay.

Pardon the question but I have limited experience with Ebay for obvious reasons. Why can't they have a bulletin board for the purpose of allowing people to check and see if anyone has left feedback on a particular item/seller/etc?
For example, if I am interested in bidding on an item, I should have access to a bulletin board where I can enter an item's number, do a search and find peoples' comments on said item. That would avoid lots of problems and be a good thing (sorry Martha)no?
