This clown on eBay thinks we're all stupid. Have a look at this "rare Pelikan 400" from his personal collection. He could have at least cleaned the thing up first!

Holy crap. That is a Pelikan M200 Amber Demo, you can buy one from Richard for 55 bucks. blink.gif

Wow, I must have gotten an unbelieveable deal on the exact same pen from Richard B., and with a custom stub no less! Lucky me!

Richard most likely sent out the wrong pen. lticaptd.gif roflmho.gif lticaptd.gif roflmho.gif

You should check out his taste in fancy artwork..

There's a stunning, mint condition, limited release, 3-D gem by some lady named 'Maxine.'..

$1,700 value apparently.. but through the kindness of his heart, the opening bid is a mere $150.. laugh.gif
Dillo
Hi,

That could have gone for $60 on average (With a steel nib) when new. In fact, we could still order those (with a gold nib) from Chartpak at my last check. I don't think that's made anymore, but $200 is too much. dry.gif

I'm new to the world of Pels, but that's an M200, isn't it?
Dillo
Hi,

It IS an M200. smile.gif

Amazing. Wonder what it'll go for...

I am wondering (worring) how can he have such a feedback on ebay.

But it's in "supreme mint condition" and it's 5.055 inches long. Surely extra special super duper supreme mint (isn't that a Ben & Jerry's flavor) and such precise measurements must be worth something.

Because, if it is sold, it will be sold to one of two people.

One: a real fool who was mesmerized by the shtick
Or
Two: a plant, this is so he can resell it at a still absurd price
jd50ae
I sent this remark via eBay.

"I am looking at an exact copy of this pen, one of two that I own. It is an M200 and still sells for around $60."

Yes, but was it exposed to the element?

That darn element is what kills it 90% of the time.
Its the difference between a $60 pen and a $65,000,000 pen (apparently.. tongue.gif)

THIS PELIKAN IS NOT FOR COLLECTORS LOOKING TO ADD A PEN TO THE TRAY. THIS PELIKAN IS NOT TO BE USED ON DAILY BASIS, THIS PELIKAN IS STRICTLY FOR COLLECTING BY COLLECTORS.....THERE ARE SIMILAR PELIKAN SELLING FOR $10.00 $20.00, $40,00, $80.00 ...THE STARTING BID FOR THIS PEN IS $200.00 ...THIS IS NOT A TRAY COLLECTIBLE ITEM. THANK YOU

Is that new?! huh.gif
lmederos

interesting that many of the "positive feedback" from "satisfied buyers" is provided by a lot of "return customers"...

contravox
oh God, please don't let a soul bid on this.
This guy is the worst of the worst. I would applaud his capitalisitic prowess if it were not so blatently insulting.

Yes, it is, likely in response to the questions many (including myself) sent him re: whether this is an M200.

"Steveart49" has bought an surprisingly large number of his listings.
cctraderx
We should all put our pens out with such a description. There's more than a couple of typos in his and the biggest one has to be the price. Well he's got a bidder, hopefully he/she's a plant so that others aren't taken.

Update:
Current bidder looks like a plant - bid on this person's bid 51% of time.

Hahaha.. It responds to external stimuli and adapts to the changing environment.

Nice. laugh.gif

No answer to my e-mail but he has removed any reference to M400, and he has one bid. Probably his shill bidder.

yes, it is new. He did have it listed as a Pelikan 400. I also questioned him on whether it was a 400. Seems he has changed his description.
helius
I've always thought that you can't change the description after someone's put in a bid... Anyone have any thoughts/ideas on that?

That's true. Maybe he's got some experience from his previous scams.
rattybad1
Interesting that the high bidder is the generically-named "Bidder1". Bets on who that is?
mmoncur
Actually "Bidder1" is eBay's doing, they withhold bidder IDs for high-value items (which I find bloody annoying).

Look at his other items, there's another "Rare Pelikan 400". I'm not a Pelikan expert - is that one real, or is it a green M200?

I like how he says it was "NEVER TAKEN OUT OF THE BOX" and then includes a picture of it sitting outside the box...

^^ I'm still laughing at that.. roflmho.gif

I love the way 'high-value' item lost every ounce of its meaning in that context.

I'm starting to think this guy wouldn't surprise me one bit if he started yanking pens off bank teller counters and listing them on eBay as being 'Mint in the Box Never Touched by Human Hands'.. laugh.gif

Srehman
Interesting that you can increase the price of an item 5x if you label it "COLLECTORS SERIE FOR COLLECTORS ONLY"

^^Agree with the "NEVER TAKEN OUT OF THE BOX"; I had a good laugh at that- I hadn't thought of it that way.

Why can't we use it, doesn't it work properly?

Isn't there a way to ask questions openly at ebay under the auction? biggrin.gif
auscan
Cant we report the listing as a con? Ther is a report button there, somewhere.

I, like many others, are amazed at his feedback rating. I would love to know how many people have lodged complaints with Paypal, after finding out that they have been jibed.
mgshn
FWIW, I sent a note to eBay customer service with questions about shill bidding and the use of multiple accounts to build feedback. Let's see what happens.

In the mean time, it is a very nice looking pen...

Good for you. I have done that in the past and never got a reply back.

Nevermind. blush.gif
superfly
uh, but since it is in AAAAAAAA+1 condition, must be best buy??
andyk
Must admit I often look at this guy's auctions and wonder if I am sitting on a fortune. OK some might be prototype/rare which may be worth that little bit more but mostly I think ??????

But I'm very tempted to sell him some of my pens and retire on the proceeds. I just feel sorry for buyers that think they have got a bargain based on his inflated values, when in fact they have paid well over the odds for something fairly ordinary.

One of my favourites is the Special Parker Adapter that he sold for $36.25, looks remarkably like one I saw in WH Smith today for £2.99, but hey it may be a rare prototype.

Still 'buyer beware' is the best way to deal with Ebay.

mgshn
Here is the ink to go with that pen: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...type=osi_widget

Nevermind.
MYU
I can't believe someone fell for that. $200 for a $55 pen? Sheesh. I know, "buyer beware", but I just get a sick feeling seeing that guy take people like that.
Dillo
Hi,

But it was one of his shill bidders, not a real bidder.

Yep, steveart49 is one of his finest customers.

Pardon the question but I have limited experience with Ebay for obvious reasons. Why can't they have a bulletin board for the purpose of allowing people to check and see if anyone has left feedback on a particular item/seller/etc?
For example, if I am interested in bidding on an item, I should have access to a bulletin board where I can enter an item's number, do a search and find peoples' comments on said item. That would avoid lots of problems and be a good thing (sorry Martha)no?
contravox
because it would make too much sense
