How much is this pen worth?

http://cgi.ebay.com/UNINKED-PARKER-ONLY-BL...1QQcmdZViewItem

It would be interesting to see how much I will be out bid by, and if I get it I have no intention of paying to much.

I generally sell nice writing Parker 21s for between $25-40... depending on shape, color, etc.

BTW, it is not nice to get into a battle of wits with the unarmed tongue.gif tongue.gif

Well, certainly NOT $300!

I wouldn't go more than $10-15 on Ebay. It IS after all a Parker 21, which was a low tier pen. I have one just like it and they can be durable pens, but you'll never find one with a nib as smooth as a 51, or 61, after all, the nib is a steel "nail".

It does appear to have a new uninked sac, which if original, could be bad. There is no way to know. Otherwise, the seller has done a nice job polishing it up to make it look like more than it is.

Also, the seller is an unknown quantity, beyond being rather rude.....and grossly overstating the true value of the pens he's selling - regardless of the fact he starts at really low initial bid prices. So I guess he wants you to somehow feel like he is making a huge sacrifice to sell off these pens and grovel at his feet or something......

I have to totally disagree with this statement.... I have had more than my share of 21s and have sold more than my share.... while not built like the more expensive 51 and using a more brittle plastic that is prone to cracking, the nibs on all the pens I have had have been very smooth. The 21 nib is octanium, the same material used on the Parker 51 Special, but not a tubular nib like the 51... however the 21 Super does have a tubular nib. In either configuration the pen is generally a very nice writer... and makes a good "take it out when I don't care pen" At least if something happens you won't cry as badly as if it were a 51.
Not only that but all 51s and 61s are nails also....

I also have to question your statement that having an uninked sac could be bad...
The sac on the 21s is the same pliglass material used on the 51 and I have had a couple of uninked 51 Aeros that filled perfectly with a sac that was originally put in the pen over 50yrs ago..

Don't matter much...................
Already way to high.

Nevertheless, it is from the esteemed (and vaste) Benz collection. So I'd say anything less than $500 for the pen is a total steal.

BALDERDASH I tell you, balderdash!

Obviously we don't agree.....however, I do agree that the Super 21 is significanly better than the regular 21......and my 21 has the original sac, but the pen has been in use, I don't know what would happen to a pen that just sat around for half a century. I've also received pens with bad sacs that had to be replaced that were not as old as my 21.....sooooooooo.......

I still think the other nibs are better writers.

Pttttthhhhhhhh!

So there.

Yeah, wassup with the Benz collection? I've seen those ads on ebay, and without knowing anything about the guy, frankly they don't have a good effect on me.

The only thing that strikes me as shiftier than the seller is the buyer.

Hahaha.. Looks like Benz is getting sloppy. rolleyes.gif

Did anyone else notice the nice little reflection in the $300 clip? laugh.gif

Sorry about that.. blush.gif

I think I've been tainted a little bit after the dozen or so requests to remove people's reflections out of the digital pictures they've taken of artwork behind glass..

To me, that registers right away as a face halfway behind a camera and a hand reaching over to snap the picture.. laugh.gif

A couple of his "buyers" are a little "strange".

I would agree with FLZapped on this one. I find his items over-stated and over-rated.

I once queried a Waterman he was listing - it had a $550 listing price and a gold plated nib. Received a rude and arrogant reply!

It is also suspected that there are some people that put in bids just to up the price, but that is speculation at this point.

This exact same pen, pictures and all is being offered again. How strange, a one feedback buyer bought it the first time for $45.

http://cgi.ebay.com/UNINKED-PARKER-ONLY-BL...1QQcmdZViewItem

and, this 12 hour auction has 2 days left on it.

Interesting reply to the question about the auction, he had 14 of these rare 21s nd has sold 5.

I have a couple of 21s, quite nice pens. Out of interest how rare are the red ones, I saw one at an antiques fair a couple of weeks ago and passed as the seller wanted far more than I was willing to pay (seemed to think it was a 51).

I'm a novice but......It looks like it was made just yesterday!!!

In fact the description supports my observation.

Shame they are prone to cracking, I might take a chance otherwise, even if it is from the "BENZ" collection.

But, you know this "BENZ" fellow must have been a hell of a collector to buy soooo many exact copies of the same pen.
coolpenz
JD, as nice as the Benz 21 looks, you'd still have to be nuts to pay $45 for one, IMHO, unless it truly was brand new, never inked, in the box... and even then I'd think about it. They're wonderful pens, but $45? Nah...
jd50ae
Oh no no no
Would not consider anything over $24.86, thats why I quit bidding when it was listed the first time.
Sorry, I am looseing clarity. blush.gif
