This is my first post, fell for fountain pens while attending cathilic school in my youth. Since Im a notary I love the look on peoples faces when I pull out the pen Im carrying for that day and notorize there paper work.

Question does anyone know why my new conway stewart does not flow smoothly and seems to use ink like a large gas guzzling car.

Hello and welcome to FPN! biggrin.gif

I own about 5 or 6 vintage Conway Stewart pens but sadly, I do not have any modern ones. They are very pretty pens, though smile.gif I am hoping that perhaps someone else can answer your question. If you do not get a response here, perhaps you can post it in our new FPN Conway Stewart forum....

That´s the sort of stunt I like to pull too. I do this in meetings, with a 20-pen case. Start writing with a fountain pen from the selection, and you can see people looking and thinking already biggrin.gif. First a fairly neutral ink, like WM Blue Black. Then a paragraph later, another pen, with a slightly more controversial ink, like Noodler´s Ottoman Rose. Then some green, followed by the bright orange of Noodler´s Cayenne. I do this to great effect laugh.gif laugh.gif.

Regarding the flow, it may need a little tweak, it may just have misaligned tines. Just check if they are nicely next to each other. If not, try flicking the tines (down, towards the feed) with a finger nail, one by one, until they are aligned.
Regarding the ink usage: it may well be a wet writer with a broad nib of course, but it may also be set to write wet. This all if the pen is in perfect order. If it isn´t, and it is a lever filler, or other pen with a rubber sac as reservoir, it may well have developed a pin hole leak, which may not necessarily cause the pen to leak, but make it write like a fire hose. That´ll need repairing.

Better ask this question in the Pen Repairs forum, with a little more information.

HTH, warm regards, Wim

welcome to FPN, John.

I'm sure there will be more posts re: your CS flow problems. I've never owned or used one so...

meanwhile, welcome to our little asylum. Hope you enjoy it here. We're a friendly, chatty lot, but there are also some very knowledgeable folks here.

best,
