Full Version: Anyone else notice this with their Sailor 1911?

I recently received a Sailor 1911 that I purchased from a fellow FPNer. When I put in the cartridge that came with the pen it wrote pretty well, but sometimes would skip when starting a new sentence or if you put it down for a minute. Then I tried my Pelikan brilliant black with the same results. Before that I rinsed it out with some water with a drop of soap (which didn't really help). So last night I let it soak overnight in some soapy water and filled it this morning with Private Reserve Lake Placid Blue. Today it wrote like a dream without any problems at all. I don't know if it was the soaking or the Private Reserve ink, but my guess is it's the ink. Just wondering if anyone else noticed any similar problems with their Sailor 1911?

well, my 1911 is pretty new to me (like a week or so new) so I haven't tried it with many inks yet, but right now it's got Noodler's in it, which alot of people seem to suggest they have had problems with, but aside from a couple skips the very first time I used it for the first couple seconds it has been perfect, even after sitting a day or two without use. I'm very pleased with mine--in fact, the place I bought it from just sent me a coupon for a discount for President's Day and I couldn't resist buying a second!

I use Sailor black with my 1911 and have never had a problem- it has a togi medium nib and virtually paints its way across the page.
And Dean, with that photo of Papa, you should be using a Montegrappa!

I also have a 1911 that I bought in late 2005 - also use Private Reserve Ink and never had any problems with it. Great writer - medium nib - very smooth!

Same as everyone else, I put the black ink cartridge in when I got it, and no problems since.

I've got a 1911 and a Pro Gear, both with medium nibs, and they've handled any ink I've thrown at them without a single hiccup, even an ink that's prone to flow issues like Noodlers El Lawrence.

My FM is just the tiniest bit prone to skipping, I tried an ammonia rinse and am using Waterman purple, and it's better than it has been. I may send it back and have it tweaked just a little bit for better flow.

I wish I could master the whole tweaking for flow thing, but my thumbs aren't built right or something. I never really seem to *accomplish* anything when I try, and I'd rather not practice on my 1911!

What type of Montegrappa did he use? I don't know much about these pens.
