I'm at a point where I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on purchasing a Sheaffer Pen for Men. I'm looking at a black PFM I or III from Sherrell Tyree at
www.ink-pen.com.
Since many vintage pens have nibs that are narrower than their modern counterparts, I was wondering how the PFM nibs compare. I'd like something in the neighborhood of a Pelikan fine.
Any suggestions?

Mine seems to be a regular, albeit very wet, medium, so I don't think the nibs are narrower than modern ones. Can't compare to pelikans, sorry.

Thanks Nellie -- that's very helpful. If the PFM nibs run fairly close to modern nibs, I think I'll be happy with a fine nib.
I was just worried that I'd order a fine nib and end up with something I could use to write microfiche.

I have a PFM I that I think is a fine -- it puts down pretty much the same size line as my TM Snorkel with a F4 nib -- and it is the size I think of when I think 'fine' nib. I'd say that it compares favourably to a Lamy (safari-style) fine; but I don't have a Pelikan (yet), so I can't compare against it.

Hi Don,
Since you're buying from Sherrell (highly recommended, btw), if you tell her what you're after, she'll make sure you get what she wants. She's top-notch and highly recommended by many here, myself included. FWIW, I agree that a fine is pretty much a true fine, etc.

Excellent! Thanks joeycoleman and southpaw.
I think I'll go ahead with a true fine. I'll also mention to Sherrell how I'm thinking of a fine nib so she has a good sense what I'm after.
Thanks to all FPNers who recommended Sherrell Tyree, by the way. I first heard of her here and learned that she's one of the go-to people if you want a Sheaffer in top condition.
I appreciate the help!
