As a followup to my post below, I received my Carene with a fine nib as an exchange from Waterman. It writes like a completely different pen. Previously, the medium nib was like a firehose -- way to wet. The fine nib is smooth as silk and just perfect. My Philas with a medium nib seems close to the Carene with the fine nib. Interesting.

Hmmm. I just ordered a new Carene with a medium nib from E-Bay for my husband's birthday. Will Waterman exchange a pen no matter where you buy it?

Just wondering in case hubby wishes he had a fine nib.

My Carene has also got a M nib - and it too writes like a firehose. If one day I buy another, IŽll certainly go for a F nib. (BTW, excellent pen, despite the nib flow).

Waterman will exchange the nib free of charge within 60 days of purchase provided that the old nib is in like new condition and you send a copy of the receipt.

Wonderful, twotone! Glad you're happy with the pen now.

I have one of each -- medium and fine, and love them both. The medium is a tad on the broad side, I suppose, and writes wonderfully well with Waterman inks, in particular. The Noodler's permanent inks (Fox Red and Hunter Green) also write well in it, but supply healthy doses of nib creep (this has happened with all pens I have used with these inks).
