I would love to find a leather-covered, refillable, reporter's notebook (binding on top of page) that has fountain-friendly paper. Does such a thing exist?

I've seen leather covers designed to slip over reporter's notebooks — some of the police equipment supply catalogs have them.
But I've never seen a refillable reporters notebook, either in 4 x 6 or 4 x 8 sizes
As for the notebooks themselves, the quality of paper varies widely and I've never been able to find one consistently good brand. Most of what I have I laid in a few years ago when a local stationer had a closeout deal and I bought dozens of them.
The Ampad Gold Fiber notebooks aren't bad, just stay away from the recycled paper pads.

It sounds like you are looking for two separate items, a leather cover for a reporter's notebook, and refills with FP friendly paper.
The refills can be made easily enough with the aid of a local print shop, including chains like Staples, and Office Depot. Those places can cut a stack of paper to size easily, and then punch and wire bind it. They won't be as cheap as the generic ones, but they shouldn't be expensive either. Plus you get to choose the paper.

Now that's a fine idea! I suppose I could also have a local artisan make the leather cover for it. Very nice.

You could construct something using the circa/rollabind system with good quality paper and a leather cover.
Try www.levenger.com and look for circa and www.rollabind.com for rollabind.
I have just started doing this, but still working on it.

I don't know about the leather cover. I went to a workshop and a reporter handed out notebooks to everyone. The one I have is FP friendly. Here is the web address:

portage I've used those very notebooks extensively, but I never thought to hit 'em with a fountain pen. It's good to know they'll play nice. Thank you.

I wrote with three different pens...Lamy Safari fine point, rotring Core fine point, and Waterman Phileas fine point. Each were filled with Noodler's Tiananmen ink. I did not experience feathering or bleed through.

Levenger has a new Circa "PDA" reporter's notebook with a leather cover. Seems very handy.
