Full Version: Conklin Self-Filling Pen

I went to Nashville, Tenn. this past week-end to spend some time with this girl. We went to her parents house first, and we all ended up getting into a discussion about fountain pens. Well, the girls mom decided that it would be a good time to get her collection out (in which case she does) and comes back with this strange looking pen. She gave me her entire collection, which included:

The Conklin pen ( no. 5 nib)
2x VERY old Schaeffer FPs
an Eagle FP ( nib is broken though)
A VERY old, but usable Schaeffer mech. pencil

Considering that this pen is over 100 years old, I was so happy that the Conklins
nib was still movable. I think it's THE most flexible nib I've come across.

Umm, not quite. smile.gif That pen has a threaded barrel, meaning that it was made after about 1910. There should be an imprint near the end of the barrel that will include a number such as 5NL or 50.

New criterion for dating: do her parents have pens to give away? laugh.gif

Well, that's really all that her mom had. I'm definitely gonna talk Claire ( the girl whose mom gave me the pens ) and ask her grandmother. Claire's mom told me that her mom was an avid pen connoisseur.

I'll put up scans of the Schaeffer pen now:
