Just to let you all know, there is a blue + gold Edson on Ebay with a buy-it-now price of US$200. Available worldwide and being sold by sub3run.
I reckon this is a good price - a prospective buyers out there?
P.S. I am not sub3run!

Btw, the same seller also has several Waterman Charlestons with broad nibs for a good price (starting bid $25 / BIN price $50).

Well done girlieg!
When you get your Edson, you will see just what a wonderful FP it is - from just admiring its sleek modern looks to writing with it. The nib is really special and the poise, balance and feel in the hand is hard to match with any other pen (modern or vintage) - and to get a good one and feel the nib glide over quality paper with an expressive ink is just...mmmm, divine. You can tell I really like mine.
Then, before long, you will want the matching Edson blue ballpoint pen. Then you will yearn for the emerald green FP. And then the ruby FP.

Allegedly.
Enjoy your wonderful new acqusition!

Just wanted to update this thread. The Edson arrived yesterday, despite the blizzard that hit New England! It arrived with no box (but was securely packed) and no converter, but for $200, what an awesome deal! I inspected it, and it seriously doesn't look like it's ever been inked. Thanks again gvl!
And Snorkel: I don't have plans to ink the pen myself, lovely as it is. I intended it to be a gift for my intern who will be graduating from law school. He's expressed a mild interest in fountain pens, so I thought this might just do him in. Nonetheless, after having the Edson in my possession for a day, I'm having major second thoughts about gifting it away...

I've been eyeing the Edson Silver LE for awhile now as well.

Wow! That's some gift, and quite a starter FP!

...and I have one of those silver LE's. Wow, what a nice pen! Unfortunate thing: I had mine in my coat pocket and leaned over and !BAM! right onto the hardwood floor. Nice little ding on the very tip-top of the cap. Sad, I know, but damn...that baby can still lay down a line.

Glad the Edson has gone to a good home. Must admit I'm rather envious of your intern!
I was tempted to buy the pen myself but having just bought a nice Parker 51 dj Heritage set + 2 Gentleman f.p.s, I felt it was a bit too extravagant.

One of the coolest looking new pens has to be the Edson. It reminds me of what people in the 1950s thought the future would look like. It's got a Jetsons/Buck Rogers type appeal to me.

Congrats on your buy, Girlieg! The Edson does have such allure to it. I agree with Ray-Vigo about the look... yes, it might indeed entice you to keep it for yourself.

I've been meaning to get one eventually, once I've started selling off my stock of low use pens.
Btw, how do you like the Sheaffer Targa 675? It's such a handsome pen with those bold gold pinstripes set against a black background. I had never seen one before and feel drawn to add it to the future-pen list.

DANG! An INTERN expresses a MILD INTEREST in fountain pens and you reward him with an uninked, long-out-of-production WATERMAN EDSON?!?!

I would be over the moon to get one for my 30 year long-service gift and everyone at work KNOWS I'm a FP NUT!!
I'm going back to law school and get a job working for YOU!!
BTW - slightly off topic, but that last smiley is called ":bonk:" and I cannot supress a smile every time I see it - that word SO TOTALLY means something different here in England.

In all seriousness, if you do decide to give the pen away as an intended gift, then I'm sure just that simple act will prompt the mysterious laws of the universe to conspire and bring you closer to getting your own Silver LE. Karma, miracles, serendipity - call it what you will...

Dear Girlieg,
I don't usually give advice unless people ask for it - but I hope you'll listen to reason. I don't think it's a good idea to give this to your intern. [It's OK if you want to tell me to mind my own business.] Here's why -
1. If his "mild interest" turns out to be no interest at all, you have "cast pearls before swine."

[I mean this figuratively. I'm not calling your intern a pig.]
2. If his "mild interest" turns into genuine full-fledged FP mania, you've done him a dis-service by starting him off at the top. Part of the fun of being a FP user/collector is escalation and anticipation - starting with low or at least medium-priced pens and working your way up. When you start with an Edson, you have no place to go.
Keep the Edson for yourself! You can give your intern a perfectly nice pen a little lower down on the scale - which will give him the "running room" that we all want. Enjoy that Edson!!!

Wow -- I had no idea this would generate so much interest, but I truly appreciate everyone's thoughts and advice.

MYU - Have you been checking out my eBay purchases?!

Somewhat still on topic with this thread, the Sheaffer Targa 675 I purchased wasn't for me. I gave it as a gift to my boyfriend because he collects them. While I like the Targas (and the Edsons) and admire the look of both, they are too heavy and too big for me. I lean more toward vintage pens, which are lighter and smaller (Waterman, Conway Stewart, Mabie Todd, and so forth), and as far as modern pens -- the smaller and lighter, the better (Omas Dama, Aurora Mini Optima, Yard O Led Pocket Victorian, Pelikan M150, and so forth).

I hear what you're both saying. I bought the Edson because it was the same amount I wanted to spend on a gift for my intern. He's graduating from law school, and having been through the experience myself, it's nice when people commemorate the event with a nice gift.
After reading the opinions expressed in this thread however, I've decided to give my intern a gift certificate for the same amount I spent on the Edson. The gift certificate would be to B&M pen shop -- that way, he can have fun picking whatever fountain pen(s) he would like. That may be more reasonable.
As far as what I'll be doing with the Edson now...hmm...as I said, as much as I like it, it's much too big and heavy for me to use. When I bought it, I never intended it as a pen for me. It is truly a stunning pen, but I don't think it would be right for me to just let this pen sit in the pen case to be admired but used only occasionally.

Last month my boyfriend tried the Edson at a pen shop, and he seemed to like it, but I wanted to get him the Edson Silver LE at some point, so maybe I can re-sell this to fund the purchase of the Silver one. We shall see... Decisions, decisions...
