Just interested to hear from the people on this forum who are lucky enough to own both pens. How do they compare in terms of weight and appearance etc? Guess my real question is whether the Sterling Silver LE is worth almost twice the cost of the other in terms of quality or does the fact that it is an LE add to its desireability and cost? Would love to hear your opinions. Aesthetically i prefer the LE but aren't sure at the minute whether the extra cost is justified.

I don't have both, but I had a similar debate last month. I ended up purchasing the LE (#2968/4000) because it would be unique, and my daughters and wife liked the look better, which made it easier to get it for my birthday. The sterling silver (no offense) seems to be a 'younger colour' to me anyways. I think the sapphire blue is a stunning colour, but with the gold accent, makes it more traditional. The other tipping point for my decision is that when I need to have a power look, my watch is stainless steel with black leather band, and my cufflinks and other accessories tend to be either stainless steel or silver. So, I had a theme going already.
P.S. The LE is a solid feeling pen. Not heavy, but feels like you got metal for what you paid. I hope some of this helps. Let me know what you decide. It's cool knowing you have one of a limited of something.

Thanks for the reply TopGun. After taking your comments on board and giving it some serious thought i finally plumped for the LE. Should be here at the beginning of next week. Pam Braun tells me that Waterman are making an Edson with a black barrel and platinum cap which are more my kind of colours, however price is likely to be $1000. Figured i may as well have sterling silver for $700, seemed like a no brainer to me.

I have been lucky enough to own both and opted to keep the LE which is my all time favourite pen.
I have changed the nib for an OGB and no matter what pens I buy, sell or trade I hang onto the silver Edson. The two 149's I own don't come close.
The blue Edson is a superb pen in its own right and whether or not the LE is worth the extra money is a debate that could roll on and on.
Personal choice is just that and a major concern should be just how much writing you intend to do with the pen. Can you warrant the extra for the LE?
If so treat yourself......go on you know you want to

Just noticed your last post.....well done and got me interested in that new Edson you mentioned

I don't own either, but I find the Sapphire to be a stunning pen.

My opinion: go for the sterling. I have one and it's a stunner. Being a limited edition it will keep its value much more than the other Edson types, if you treat it well.

Very personal choice, but my opinion is that the saphire is the classic. Happens that I own both.
Get the one you prefer!

Indeed the choice is very personal.
I found the translucent resin of the Saphire blue so captivating that I added an Emerald and Ruby to my collection as well. You have been warned...

Received the pen and i have to say it looks great. Very stiff nib but wonderfully smooth and wet. Thanks to all that contributed to this thread.
