Can anyone tell me the difference between the Mont Blanc 144 and 145 fountain pens. I believe the 145 is also know as the Meisterstuck Classique, the Meisterstück Hommage a’ Frederic Chopin, and is described as Black with Gold Accents Chopin Fountain Pen #145 (Mont Blanc Ident. No: 01518). But what is the MB 144? Thank you.
Ray
Actually the 145 is the Chopin, the 144 Classique. The former is still in production, whereas I think they stopped making the slightly smaller 144s.

The easy way to tell them apart in a photo is that the 145 had a twist cap so you will see threads on the barrel near the section, whilst the 144 had a push on cap.

x2 what Ray just said. The 144s are no longer in existance in the resin form. The 145 has now prevailed.

The 145 is a great pen, it's got a threaded cap and it takes both cartridges and converter. It's a great pen in terms of practicality and flexibility.

Besides the screw-on versus clip on cap, is the Classique 144 the same size as the Chopin 145?
Thanks,

Hi. I have a 144 and it has a threaded cap. Anyone know what the actual size differences is between the 144 and 145? Thanks.

I own a Montblanc Meisterstuck 145, the cap is most definately a screw-on cap.

I have the 144 Fountain, Ballpoint and Roller Ball in Bordeaux. The fountain has a slip on cap. The Chopin 145 screw on cap is in my wife's desk (never gets used!) One gift I'd like to get back to use myself!

Interestingly, I have a 144 fountain pen, roller ball, and pencil in Bordeaux. (And yes, the fountain pen has a slip-on cap.) Never knew it to have a screw-on cap, but I bought mine in 1992 or thereabouts, and the 144 persisted for a few more years after that, if I recall correctly.

I have found an older Montblanc 145. The owner says it has a small crack in the "front section" and that Montblanc wants about $50-$60 to replace the part. Does that sound reasonable? He wants $100 for the pen with it broken. Is that a good price (since you would need to repair it)?

Thanks for any and all comments!!
