Yikes! Much ado about nothing... spend a few bucks extra and get a $10 refillable pen!
Y'know... after seeing that picture, I remember I used one of these back in high school. I remember it writing pretty well.

Yes- some of the Chinese and Japanese pens are decent performers for their price, and not a whole lot more than a couple of those Varsities.

If you look at some of the Duke and Hero pens on isellpens.com , even a Pilot Varsity seems to be a waste of money at times

Pull the section out rince out fill with ink put section back into pen Vers simple
Also works with a lot of the other pilot ink pens. Fill a lot of them with my own color of ink.

Oh, well, we are told people climb mountains just because they are there. Someone had to try to figure out how to refill a Varsity. I have thought about trying it myself just to do it.
