Being new to the FP world I am curious as to how many different types and/or colors of ink you have open and in use?

I use three regularly: Black, Blue Black, and Red Black (all Noodler's). I also have Tahitian pearl and PR Midnight blues but don't find myself using them currently.

I have a couple dozen bottles of various brands and colors, plus mixes I've concocted. A good number of them are turquoise and bordeaux colors. I have only 2 regular blues: Waterman Florida blue & Noodlers Luxury blue and 2 blacks: Waterman & Noodlers permanent.

I seldom use blue or black... mostly just for signing checks & addressing envelopes (the permanent inks).

22 colors. I can't help it, I'm addicted to the color wheel; as a side benefit, I buy new pens so I have somewhere to put all that ink.

Sheaffer Skrip Black, in the sidewell bottle. I'm actually willing to trade this for pretty much anything anyone wants to offer, particularly in the way of purples or a medium to dark green.

Sheaffer Turquoise Blue, the slovenian product. This stuff really pops!

Visconti Sepia. Very nice shading.

Waterman Florida Blue. If this stuff had ANY resistance to either water or fading, I'd love it.

Levenger Cobalt Blue. Nice and dark, nearly black from a fine, wet writer.

Levenger Raven Black. Has a satin-to-gloss finish that I just don't like.

Noodler's Red-Black. Another very dark ink; the black component is most likely bulletproof.

Quink Permanent Black with Solv-X. Nice, dense black, completely flat finish. My wife's favorite ink.

I have Waterman Florida Blue and Pelikan Brown.
I ordered Diamine Emerald Green and Orange.
I plan to buy Waterman Blue-Black and Havana, but not before the Pelikan Brown bottle is empty. I don't want to have 20 bottles in use.

Considering I just received my Pendemonium ink order last night (three Noodler's, two PRs, and a J Herbin), I am way over the top. (Though I admit I look like an amateur compared to some here!)

I am a total color junkie, though I tend more towards the purple - blue end of the things. I've lately become re-enamored of Noodler's Blue-Black, though that may falter a bit under the onslaught of new.

Interesting that the majority went for the largest number. Our bell-shaped curve's a bit askew. Then again, I guess we already knew that.

I have a few dozen different colors. Probably about 10 0r 12 that I use regularly.

I recently got rid of seven bottles I was not going to use, so I am now down to 47 bottles, which contain 30 different colors (8 of which are my own mixes).

Some of those colors I only use for mixing, so they never go straight up into a pen. I have sixteen different colors loaded in pens at the present moment.

Only 5 but only been doing this since November. Also have 5 pens, each has a different ink, and I try to use every pen every day, even if only for a short while.
I was not interested in other inks until I joined FPN, then I got sucked in . . . :ph34r:

When i voted, i counted all the purples as 1, all the blues as 1, all the Blacks as 1, both yellows as 1, and both Greens as 1 but i counted gray, turquoise, red, & pink separately... AND nothing is like my icky copper burst! Soooo, I said 12.

I LOVE THE ALL PURPLES & most browns!! I can not wait to try PR Tanzanite and Chocolate. I'm gonna be getting them soon!

I have 7 on hand at the moment, but generally keep the collection small, around 4 core colours. I evaluate and sell off the ones that don't work out for me.

Sheesh! And I thought I was overdoing a bit with my inks....
Because I write on legal documents, it has to be able to photocopy, so I am limited to a certain way in the colors and shades I have to choose. Then I have cartridges which are kind of generic and when I am in a hurry and can't be bothered by filling a pen from a bottle (I dislike converters) .

Washington DC is just exquisite for me.

Waterman are fine, but somewhat limited.

Noodlers well, mixed feelings. Aircorps looks to me very much similar to Forest green and the eel's black (lubricated for piston pens) is kind of washed-out black. I haven't yet tried Diamine. :bunny1:

Simple. Just by looking at the name, or at the bottle. Isn't it supposed to work like that?

However, my pens always remember. They know what they want and like. Just that sometimes they want a different diet. Oh, in case you didn't guess yet, my pens talk to me, and tell me what they want .

When I first posted this poll I had all of two colors a Waterman Black and a Noodlers Navy. I have since added Pelikan Black and have just ordered three more Noodlers colors - for a soon to be total of 6. Let the games begin.

In another thread on this forum I ran across an offer from The Pear Tree Pen Company. For $2.95 (includes shipping within the US) they wil send you four (4) 1cc samples of ink. You can select from about 100 different colors from about 10 different manufacturers. Sounds like a good way to sample some inks without committing to a full bottle and the associated cost.

I'm up to eighty-five bottles of ink, plus one hundred and forty-eight cartidges. OCD?

Of course, I just received a copy of Greg Clark's Fountain Pen Inks: A Sampler, in which he lays claim to over seven hundred bottles. (No idea if this includes duplicates.) Great Book, except that I'm now coveting a bottle of Parker Super Chrome Turquiose, which will probably give my pens cancer.

In addition to The Pear Tree's excellent samples, I'd also recommend FPN's Ink Exchange Program. I've got about thirty vials ready to test drive, including Penman Emerald and Sapphire. A nice option to shelling out the $30 or so a bottle those last two are going for these days.

Mostly cartridges:

Pelikan: blue-black, violet, brilliant black, turquoise
Waterman: green, florida blue, south sea blue, black
Inoxcrom: black
Parker: washable blue, emerald, ruby
Pilot (enroute with converter): black, blue

For bottled ink, I only have Pelikan blue-black and Noodler's Midnight Blue.

I have my ink wish list which includes browns, reds, burgundy,...

Thinking of getting a small dip pen for future bottle ink purchases.
