Full Version: What is your favorite M200 color in production?

I've got an M200 in black, and love the sleek, understated look of elegance. I'm thinking about getting another one for nibs I would like to try, and was wondering what the general feelings toward M200 colors are on this board.

Please tell me if I missed a color, maybe an admin could edit.

Oh, and would you also care to share why? The reasons are often more interesting than the poll. biggrin.gif

i selected blue but it's a close race between it and the green. Both are lovely up close and personal (IMNSHO). Truthfully, my favorite is the grey but it's no longer in production. sad.gif

I first bought the green. Blue was too "average" for me in terms of pens or inks. But that was based on a picture in a catalog. Had I seen them side-by-side before buying I probably would have purchased the blue first. The green is still lovely and it drinks my favorite green ink very happily.

I was browsing ebay today, saw a grey M200 up, and remembered that someone said they liked that one the mostest, so clicky clicky cool.gif

I have a fondness for the 200. I like the green translucent even though blue is usually a favorite color of mine. It's a nice shade of green and gets lots of comments.

A colleague gave me a solid burgandy many years ago that is a handsome pen. It too is very nice.

I have a green marble 200 from Binder, and I love it. It's dang near my favorite pen. Would love to get my hands on a clear demonstrator, one of these days.

I have a blue translucent from Dillon Ang, with an awesome cursive italic that he ground for me. So far I've only inked it with WWII-era Skrip Emerald, and Pelikan Royal Blue, and it writes very nicely.

I don't know what is in production, but this is my favorite, why? Cause it's preeety:

Black, because black is a BEAUTIFUL COLOR! And I can put any ink in it I want! tongue.gif

I think the green translucent demonstrator is just lovely, so much so that I bought one! It hasn't arrived yet. Can't wait for it to get here! The blue translucent is also very beautiful, but since I meant to purchase one pen and got two (the other is a black Pelikan 150), I have to hold off for now. rolleyes.gif

Sorry, I know the green demo isn't in production anymore, but the marbled green and blue just don't do it for me. blush.gif

H'mmm - I have the Red, Blue, & Brown translucent models and they are great pens, but my favorite 200 and I don't think it's still in production is the Brown tortoise barrel with solid brown cap - that's a great looking pen. It's an especially fine writing pen as well - with a Binderized .7mm cursive italic nib!

I voted black for the same reason already stated -- it's sleek and understated. However, I could be easily persuaded to buy the M200 Anthracite which is nearly impossible to find these days. The solid burgundy M250 is also a real looker. smile.gif

As in the other poll, I voted for the amber demo. It's a very tough decision this time because the blue demo also looks very attractive to me, especially given my penchant for that color. However, the amber was demanding that I buy it; I just couldn't get the voice out of my head. laugh.gif
Srehman
Black. It's understated and elegant.
auscan
I pick the amber demostrator, with black a close second. Ive never realy liked the marble finish on the M200.
johnr55
Elaine--that's the red demo; I've got two of those with matching BP and it's my favorite--but I think it's d/c'd.

To me, black pens like the M200 in black are like the basic black dress for women. It was my first M200 many years ago, and my first Pelikan. I can see why David loves his. Though I also have the amber and blue, if I could only have one it would be the basic black.

But isn't it great we have choices! biggrin.gif

Yes and no.

Yes: variety is, after all the spice of life.

No: variety is costly. roflmho.gif

I have a clear red one, wish I had bought a clear blue one as well now.

I bought my first Pelikan last December in Green. I have no others at this time wink.gif to compare it to but hope to soon. I therefore voted Green by the way.

My favourite M200 pen is opaque green. The cap, barrel, section, and piston knob are all opaque green. At the end of the cap, a black piece secures the clip to the cap. Only the ink window is translucent. I do not know when the pen was made.

I saw the anthracite demonstrator and it looked great.Has anyone seen it compared to the amber in person?

I have a green marble M200. When it arrived in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is a beautiful little pen. smile.gif Its photos don't do it justice.

I just had to resurrect this thread. I've never seen the marbled pens in person but in every photograph I've seen of them they appear absolutely ugly. Am I mistaken in this? For me, there was absolutely no question in choosing the elegant black over the marbled ones. If only the 200 came striated for the same price!

I have the green marble, but I wish I had the black also.

I choose green marble. As others have said, photos do not do justice to the marble green finish at all. In pictures, I thought it was God awful ugly, but I found a deal I couldn't refuse. In person, they're very attractive.

The black is okay as well, but I avoid black pens because they tend to pick up and show scratches much better than colored bodies.

Well, that's going to be entirely subjective of course. I love the marbled colors. The blue, IMO, is very striking and the Telekom magenta/gray is just a sweet little treat. Do they look like warm, intense celluloid or some of the flashier acrylics out there now? Nah. But I find them quite lovely. They have a shimmer to them that gives them some depth and are not just flat colors. Probably the green is the least impressive, but maybe I feel that way simply because I've had mine forever. Love the gray.

But to each their own. Black pens, in general, bore me to death. My Sapporo mini with rhodium trim being one exception. I can't imagine ever buying another black pen, however.

Before I bought my Black Pelikan M200 I also looked at some of the marbled pens. I wasn't too fond of the marbled pens from pictures I had seen, and I liked them even less in person.

But, I love my black M200.

Mine is a 215, black lozenge pattern. I will say black is my personal take as well for the plain 200's.

My reason is actually that the traditional Pelikan look (green stripes, gold plated clip, black top) seems to work best for the huge pens to me. My take is any form of striped pattern looks most fitting for 600 and up.

And the green seems most fitting to the M1000 and M800. Just my very nitpicky tastes! I just don't think the green works without a "grand" to the pen, so the all-out traditional king-sized Pelikan is what should be associated.

That said, all Pelikans are nice, just my idealistic views here!

I have the anthracite and amber both...they are both beautiful, but for me the amber edges out the other. By a small margin. Maybe.

If you already have one M200 and want another finish, why not check out the M215s as well? Four nice finishes not available on an M200!

I have 2 green marbles, my wife a grey, we bought our daughter a blue. All beautiful. I too like the stripes, but my wife insists the 200 could only be made better if it had the 400 nib.
hbquikcomjamesl
Blue marble. Partly out of tradition and nostalgia: my very first Pelikan was a blue marble M200, which I lost (the only time I ever lost a fountain pen) and replaced with another blue marble M200, which (when I wore it out) I replaced with my present blue marble M200. And partly because blue is also my first choice of ink color.

I like your wife. smile.gif Judybug is right, pictures don't do them justice normally. They don't show the shimmering colors of the 200s.

I like the 400 stripes (especially the blue) but I'm a sucker for swirly colors. smile.gif

Just wish I'd bought a 200 "tortoise" (which wasn't really anything vaguely resembling tortoise, IMO) when I had the chance. Oh well.

I'll have to rescind my statement after having seen the marbled pens in person. Quite attractive.
