Full Version: 600 series nib comparison

I'm contemplating purchasing a 605 and have read threads re: nib size and, specifically, people being surprised that the medium is so...well....medium.

If anyone would be so inclined, I would really love to see a writing sample from a M and/or B nib in the 600 series. TIA!

I've always thought Pelikan nibs were a little bit wider than what most people would consider "true American sizes."

May I suggest another way of getting you the information you're seeking? How about listing some of your pens and nib sizes? You may get more hits/responses this way.

Still trying to decide between a M or B in the 605.

I want this to be an everyday pen, so I don't want the B to be too broad...but at the same time I'd like a little variation from the Ms and Fs I already have. My main writers right now are:

Sheaffer Prelude stock - gold plated M
Parker 45 - 14K F

These two pens actually write about the same in terms of line width. Any thoughts on how the Pelikan 600 M and B would compare? Thanks.

I'm sorry I didn't read this earlier. For an everyday pen, 99 percent of people would say a Pelikan B is too wide. The choice is really between M and F for an everyday pen - so, for you, the M sounds like the one.

I agree. The B is too thick for my writing.

I just exchanged a Pelikan M600 M for a F nib. The M was simply too broad for my handwriting, but it is incredibly smooth. The M600 M nib lays down a line that is probably 0.7 mm wide of maybe a shade wider. The M600 F nib lays down a line about 0.5 mm wide. The B would be significantly wider than 0.7 mm.

Cheers.

According to Nibs.com, Pelikan's broads are 0.85mm. Their mediums are at 0.7mm.

I've had but one experience with a broad Pelikan nib, and it was like painting with a brush. (Note: I have slightly smaller than average handwriting)

I think you guys have talked me out of the broad...

I printed out a metric ruler off the net to compare a few nibs and to gauge what a .85 mm width might actually look like. Probably much safer with the M - and I can always swap out thru Chartpak if I'm unhappy. Now....I've got to wait for that M to get back in stock!

Many thanks for the responses.
