Very new to this game, but I have a question re: feathering in a Sheaffer Prelude. The thread on the Pilot Varsity caused me to realize that my blue Varsity writes "better" than my Prelude. The nib on the Prelude is smoother but the final product - how the ink looks on the page - is not as good. I'm getting pretty consistent feathering that I perhaps did not notice much before because, being new to FPs, I had little to compare it to.

I'm using Private Reserve Lake Placid Blue in the Prelude. Has anyone had feathering issues with this, or a similar, combination? Any ideas on how to get rid of this annoying problem? Thanks.

If you don't want feathering, try Noodlers ink. I am having a problem with nib creep with my Prelude--ink creeping to the top of the nib, and eventually it gets in the cap if I don't clean it regularly. I have switched to Namiki Black, and it has much less creep, but feathers a little more. I've been told Pelikan Black is worth trying for similar water resistant qualities, and less feathering.

I think feathering is not relly a problem caused by the pen but by the paper and ink combination. Try using different paper or ink.

Nib creep is a whole different issue IMHO smile.gif
