I'm looking into getting an M1000 in the near future. Does anyone know if current production Pelikans are using nibs made by Pelikan or Bock? If they are being made by Pelikan, since when?

Thanks!

They are made by Bock. See the link below:

Since when... well, I don't know. I once wrote an email to Bock and asked them which nibs they manufacture but I never received an answer. Maybe it's a secret. <_<

Someone had suggested that Pelikan recently switched back to their own production--just a rumor?

It was told to a group visiting the Pelikan factory in Hannover in Oct. 2006, that they sourced the nib production back inhouse. Rolf Thiel of missing-pen.de took part in that visit and mentioned that fact in a report he published here: http://www.penexchange.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1300

It is in German of course. tongue.gif

I'm planning to summarize the essentials of that report in English in the near furure. /:)

saintsimon, does this mean that current production Pelikans will have in-house nibs or that they are intending to bring nib production in-house in the future?

saintsimon,

I did a Google translation of the page and believe I understand most of the information. I expect to be in Hannover in late spring and am interested in a tour of the factory. Do you know if the tours are scheduled or is a minumim group size required?

Thanks,

Bill

They do the inhouse production allready, but it's not mentioned when that started, sorry. unsure.gif

Rolf mentioned, that these factory visits take place more than once a week, and if you ask them about a visit beforehand, you may join a visitor group.

I just spoke to Pengallery.com and they told me that their current stock of M1000s have Pelikan-made nibs. I don' t know if this accurate or not, but that's what they said. So hmm . . .

I don't know about the current nibs, but the Pelikan-made nibs from the 1980s and 1990s have a little oval at the left side base of the nib that reads PF for (presumably) Pelikan Fabrik.
