Ahh I was looking at that! Does anyone know what the "buy it now" price was?
Brian Anderson
I think I saw it around $700 or so. Definitely less than the current price.

I called the seller. Less than the first bid. She was amazed.

It was $695.

Why would anyone make a first bid more than the Buy it Now price unless they're a shill? Doesn't make sense!

Todd, that is not correct.

The eBay bid history shows the following bids were placed:
$10, $150, $355, $450, $600, $700, $800, $999.99, and the current one of $1009.99.

So at least 5 bids were placed before the BIN level was reached.

Gerry

Just repeating what the seller told me. I sent her a message asking about the buy it now line in the auction and she replied back that the first bid was over the minimum. Doesn't matter now I can't afford it and don't have 322 pens!

She also didn't give me the actual price. When I contacted her the bid was already 1009.99. I should have looked at FPN notice before I did and acted quicker!

Wow, it's at $2025 now. Boy was it a bargan at $695! There may be some last minute action as snipers might chime in, but the cost now is pretty high. I figure the retail value to be at around $3,000 so right now there's only a 40% margin. Not much considering some of the nibs may not be mint and the market for them is questionable...

They are hiding the bidder's handles for some reason, but Bidder 4 is Sandy101rock, I don't remember who bidder 5 was.

Knew I should've gone for the BIN...

Not that I'd know what to do with 'em all, but I think I could've gotten rid of them. tongue.gif
Gerry
You coulda sold portions to all the guys here that wished they had taken a chance..

Sandy101Rock sells Esterbrook nibs frequently on eBay, so I can see the merit behind $2k for the lot, given over 300 nibs... that's less than $10 a pop, when those nibs are going for much more. But wow, why they didn't jump in and nab it at $695 is beyond me, unless they just missed it.

Buy-it-Now will go away under certain circumstances. I think the two main choices are when the first bid is placed and the reserve is finally met. Sandy101Rock must've become aware of it too late. But so be it -- that person has high prices.

At $695, I'd have nailed it right away then turned around and sold each nib for just $5-$10 a piece (depending on condition) to FPN members.
